The position of Communications Assistant Program Director plays an essential role in the development and execution of the Center’s communications strategy. The position will also assist in the growing advancement and stewardship work as needed.
The Communications Assistant Program Director’s top priorities will be:
- Communications
- to develop communications on digital, web, and print projects that communicate the Center’s mission and message and advance its reputation as a University-level academic institute committed to justice education, research for the common good and consequential conversations
- Work is varied depending on need and might include drafting of press releases, annual reports, newsletters, developing promotional materials (posters, flyers, tshirts, etc); management of social media presence, website curation and development; graphic design of materials. And depending on skills some photography and/or video work.
- Donor advancement and stewardship
- to coordinate advancement activities, develop reports including annual stewardship reports, produce annual holiday cards and occasional outreach to benefactors.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s degree (in relevant field)
- 3+ years of experience
- Knowledge and understanding of printing processes and terms; web publishing software (word press) and basic HTML code for formatting basic web pages; email campaign software (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, Emma or similar software); Photoshop, Illustrator or similar software to generate web ready photo assets and promotional designs. Writing/editing/proofreading experience, preferably the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications and database management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills across various constituents
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organization, problem-solving skills, and critical-thinking skills including knowing when to elevate to the next level.
- Photography, video, social media skills/experience a plus.
- Must be able to work independently on multiple projects and to prioritize activities in response to changing circumstances and on-going deadlines.
- Strong project management and interpersonal communication skills
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment in a collaborative way.
- An understanding, appreciation, and enthusiasm for the mission of the Center is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of University systems is a plus.
- Experience in an academic environment
