Job Description

The University of Notre Dame Enterprises and Events (UEE) division is currently hiring for the position of Lead Server within the department of Morris Inn. The UEE division leads the University’s event management, hospitality, and customer service functions while supporting student life, academic endeavors, and research initiatives.

Why this position?
This position will be essential to the overall success, both financially and from a customer service perspective for Rohr’s restaurant. This position will take the sole lead on training of all servers and dining room attendants to ensure all service standards are met while providing prompt, efficient, and courteous service to others, including all elements of hospitality, such as anticipation, recognition, and responsiveness to the needs of others. Additionally, they will be embracing and supporting an upsell program for menu items and beverage items to increase the average checks per person. They will ensure all team members have knowledge of all menu items and beverages (wine/cocktails) and will oversee the upselling of these items to generate revenues and increase the customer experience. Employees within this position are encouraged to behave at all times with optimism, intelligence, curiosity, work integrity, empathy, and self awareness, all while preforming the tasks of greeting, describing and explaining food and beverage offerings, creating guest orders, communicating guest orders accurately, serving food and beverages according to standards, assuring continued food and beverage service at all times, presenting guest checks and securing payment, and completing all additional tasks to support an environment that is hospitable. They also help in developing strategic procedures and training recommendations by researching on the latest trends in the industry to help the staff provide a better guest experience which in turn generates revenues and attracts more customers. They will provide guidance and feedback to their managers about specific coaching opportunities of specific staff based on their job performance. A lead server will also provide assistance to managers, to help ensure that the shift will provide the best guest experience. This role will act as the manager on duty when the actual manager has to step off of the floor to attend a meeting. This role will have access to point of sales systems, reservations systems and human resource information and discretion and high level of integrity is required.

This position is with University Enterprises and Events at the University of Notre Dame and is eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus (1/2 paid after 90 and 180 days of continuous employment). Candidates are only eligible if they are a new employee to the University – current Notre Dame employees who transfer are not eligible. Other rules and conditions apply.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Lift and Carry trays with Food and beverage items on them, weight up to 25 pounds.
  • Intuitive and reasoning skills, with a passion for helping, to support anticipatory service to others.

Preferred Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and retain an Indiana Alcohol Beverage Permit / license.
