Position Summary

The Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate to join the Cancer Biology Division. The successful candidate will be involved in projects to develop and characterize novel cancer imaging agents and therapeutics. There is a particular emphasis on radiopharmaceutical development with PET/CT imaging and evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy of anti-cancer agents in preclinical models of cancers. Overall, this oncology research aims to generate novel imaging and therapeutic agents that will be translated from preclinical animal models to the clinic. 

The successful candidate will develop expertise in cancer drug development and imaging of preclinical models of cancer. The candidate will be expected to lead research projects, publish in leading scientific journals and conferences. The postdoctoral research associate will participate in set-up of project proposals and participate in funding activities. The candidate will be strongly encouraged and supported to develop career skills, including writing, public speaking, networking, and applying for independent fellowships and grants. The successful candidate will have access to state-of-the-art lab equipment and departmental core facilities. Training will be provided in disciplines that the candidate is less familiar.  Experience in radiochemistry and/or cancer biology is preferred. The successful candidate will receive training for conducting radiosynthesis of potential PET imaging/therapeutic agents and validating new theranostic probes in vitro and vivo.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Immunology or a related field, with an emphasis on cancer research.
  • Knowledgeable within one or more of the following subjects: PET/CT imaging, radiochemistry, chemistry, immunology, cancer biology.
  • Ability to clearly communicate research findings through oral presentation and written publication.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative manner with a diverse group of scientists and clinicians.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in handling radioactive material, radiochemistry and chemical conjugation or related field.
  • Experience with small animal imaging (PET/CT, NIR) and data analysis.
  • Experience with data analysis, post-processing, and statistical analyses using Excel, GraphPad Prism, MATLAB, SPSS, Python, or related software.
  • Experience with preclinical models of cancer, including handling of research animals.
  • Experience with quantitative analyses of chemical, cells, and tissue (immunofluorescence analyses, activity assays, western blots, flow cytometry, SDS-PAGE, and chemical and biochemical assays.).

Working Conditions

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical, and radioactive hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range

Base pay is commensurate with experience.
