Job Description:

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, time-limited, non-tenure track, 12-month faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering with the Florida Institute for National Security (FINS). Initial appointment will be for one year with annual re-appointment based on performance and available funding.

Duties will include, but not be limited to leading multiple research projects, including tasking, overseeing and co-mentoring project Research Assistants and PhD students with performing research objectives, preparing project deliverables, and meeting the annual goals of each assigned project. The candidate should have experience in synthesizing results into peer-reviewed manuscripts along with the other students, presenting such results at conferences and updating sponsors on the status of the project as required.  The candidate is also expected to serve in a leadership role as a liaison between the FINS director, lab staff/ students/ research assistants, collaborators and/or research sponsors. The successful candidate is also expected to lead efforts in pursuing and establishing new sponsored research opportunities, developing innovative ideas for future proposals, identifying viable funding opportunities/collaborations, and preparing grant proposals.

Expected Salary:

Salary to commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications: At least one year of post-doctoral work experience or some project management/teaching experience. Experience in applied machine learning research, especially in the areas of computer vision and natural language processing. This position will supervise research support staff across multiple projects. Initially, the candidate will be expected to apply their expertise in two major areas of research: hardware assurance of integrated circuits through reverse engineering by applying artificial intelligence and computer vision techniques, and computational behavior analysis for stylometric and psychometric profiling by applying natural language processing techniques. The candidate is expected to have excellent technical writing, communication skills and creativity demonstrated using a track record of academic research and/or scientific publications, grant proposals/white papers writing experience and patent applications. Prior experience working on federally funded projects and/or with intelligence or defense sponsors is preferred.
