GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

 

In support of the overall Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology programs, the Success Coach will coordinate, develop, enhance, and offer academic advising, planning, and support to students seeking enrollment and/or enrolled in the Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology programs. In addition, the Success Coach for Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology programs will serve as an academic advisor as well as support and facilitate engagement and outreach programs. This position requires excellent communication skills and attention to detail. This position reports to the Success Coach Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:
  • Associate degree plus one year experience in post-secondary academic advising
OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  • Serve as a point of contact for general inquiries concerning the Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology programs.
  • Provide academic advising for students enrolled or seeking enrollment in Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology programs.
  • Support and facilitate Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology engagement and outreach programs.
  • Assist with Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology retention efforts.
  • Collect and report data related to Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology advising and enrollment to support campus-wide initiatives and annual planning.
  • Complete Early Alerts for students.
  • Contact out-of-state students via email or postal mail with information related to program compliance with licensure requirements in their state of residence as required by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

OTHER DUTIES

 

  • Serve as a point of contact for general inquiries concerning the Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology programs.
  • Serve as Academic Advisor to prospective students seeking enrollment and to those currently enrolled in Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology.
  • Create and maintain student educational plans.
  • Advise and register students. (Must contact assigned advisees at least 3 times a semester.)
  • Contact students as needed to make sure they remain on their career path.
  • Work with Enrollment Management to obtain call lists for advisees who have been deregistered or have withdrawn from class(es).
  • Facilitate and document communication with advisees.
  • Provide an honest, safe, confidential, and respectful environment where students can ask questions, express concerns, and discuss interests.
  • Assist in the creation and distribution of recruitment materials.
  • Attend Outreach events along with other advisors and representatives to help promote college programs.
  • Maintain appropriate records and assist in generating relevant reports.
  • Assist the Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology Departments with planning Advisory Board Meetings.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining the Basic Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice Technology webpages.
  • Work with the program head, advisors, and Student Services to contact active advisees who are close to degree completion; students no longer enrolled but close to degree completion; and all degree applicants.
  • Work with financial aid (FA) to resolve issues related to students receiving postcards for classes not covered by FA.
  • Attend meetings and trainings with the College Navigators to create a seamless advising experience for all students.
  • Work with Student Services to update and accurately maintain advisor names on student accounts.
  • Regularly utilize SCC’s electronic media such as email, advising and registration software, and the learning management system (LMS) as appropriate and necessary to fulfil duties.
  • Attend School meetings and faculty/staff meetings.
  • Attend/participate in conferences and workshops as appropriate both on and off campus.
  • Serve on a variety of campus committees and participate in campus activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
