The Biomedical Imaging Research Institute (BIRI) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking a T32 Research Fellow to join the team!

The Biomedical Imaging Research Institute (BIRI) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Research Fellow for projects in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) under the supervision of Professors Dr. Debiao Li and Dr. Yibin Xie.

The successful applicant works with the investigators at BIRI to make creative contributions to research projects in the field of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) with a focus on the development and application of novel image acquisition, reconstruction, and analysis approaches. The position also involves limited administrative and teaching responsibilities. This position is supported by an active NIH funding T-32 Training Grant which requires US citizenship or Permanent Residency.

As a NIH T32-supported Research Fellow, working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigators and other Research Scientists, the Research Fellow will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. Analyzes and interprets data. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. Not responsible for generating grant funds.

  • Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigators.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
  • Performs and develops software tools for image reconstruction in MATLAB, Python, and/or C++, and for image post-processing and analysis.
  • Develops and tests pulse sequence software on Siemens and/or Bruker scanners.
  • Develops machine learning models in TensorFlow and/or PyTorch.
  • Designs and performs imaging experiments on human and/or animal subjects.
  • Performs scientific literature review, manuscript writing, and conference presentations.

Education:

  • Doctorate Degree (or equivalent) in a STEM field, including but not limited to, Physics, Math, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.

Experience and Skills:

  • No minimum work experience is required. Demonstrated creative contributions to research projects involving technical computer programming.
  • High level of proficiency in scientific computing using Matlab, Python or C++.
  • Prior experiences with imaging research.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple project objectives with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and be highly motivated.
