Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Operations Area Manager for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Manager supports the Office of Business Administration with the strategic management of all off-campus facilities and resources and ensures efficient and effective utilization of funds to best support the strategic goals of the School and the outlying research field stations, farms and other facilities. This Manager will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Provides support services in the areas of property management, design and space planning, maintenance of building facilities, equipment and machinery.
  • Coordinates with the Director to identify and designate funds, schedule facility modifications and follow up on estimates and any related costs.
  • Oversees all major and minor capital projects for off campus facilities from beginning to end and manage an automotive fleet of vehicles, as well as property lease agreements for the School and Station.
  • Coordinates with SEBS Director of Facilities Management, who is responsible for on-campus facilities, and also work in conjunction with Rutgers Institutional Planning and Operations (IPO) and campus operations managers.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in related field or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience plus a minimum of five years of experience that demonstrates knowledge of coordination, organization and project management.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently or as an effective member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in working with automated purchasing systems (preferably Oracle or SciQuest).
  • Project work order or management system experience would be helpful.
Equipment Utilized
  • Position requires use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe suite of products, including Illustrator, Photoshop, project/work order management software. Familiarity with space management software a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able and willing to travel to off campus facilities.

Immunization Requirements
