The Division of Human Resources encompasses the functional areas of employment, classification, compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, onboarding, and HR information management. These services are directed, managed, and provided by the division for more than 4,000 SHRA employees, 2,000 EHRA non-faculty employees, 1,800 faculty, and 2,500 temporary employees. The division provides leadership to the university administration, managers, and employees by being a progressive and innovative provider of human resources services.

NC State University Human Resources (UHR) welcomes applications for a graduate-level HR student intern that will assist with research and development and implementation of an internal cross-training program that will impact the success of rotational exploration and professional development among HR professionals between all facets of the HR life cycle and elements.

Primary duties of the Graduate Intern will include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Researching best practices in HR through a variety of sources including professional organizations.
  • Working with University Human Resources (UHR) leadership to compile information and operational data/analytics that will guide the activities and vision of the rotational program to include the development of learning objectives for each team rotation.
  • Creating and disseminating digital media and presentation materials to promote the UHR rotational program.
  • Participating in sprints and assisting the project manager with the design and implementation of the program.
  • Applying the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and Agile methodology to ensure that the project is being completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the project manager.

Minimum Experience/Education

Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) or other relevant degree program

  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, professionalism, integrity, and good judgment
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with varying university stakeholders

  • Ability to think critically and creatively to provide strategic solutions to problems
  • Excellent active listening skills with the ability to apply different perspectives from a variety of different UHR and campus stakeholders

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate of a Master’s degree program with an emphasis on Human Resources or Learning and Organizational Development
  • Familiarity or previous experience with NC State University
  • Previous experience with project management or the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodology
  • Previous experience using Google Applications (or similar software)
  • Previous experience with creative media (video creation, adobe, etc)
  • Interested in pursuing a career in Human Resources
