Program Director for Textiles

Job Description

PROGRAM DIRECTOR FOR TEXTILES, Vice President for Research-Climate Grand Challenges (CGC) (part-time, 50%), to support CGC, an Institute-wide initiative (launched in 2020) to deliver high-impact climate solutions for the world.   CGC seeks to establish a robust pipeline for rapidly developing forefront technologies and solutions for addressing the causes and negative impacts of climate change.  Responsibilities include identifying problems across the textile industry that are important and challenging enough to move the needle on climate change; developing, workshopping, launching, and managing CGC research and challenge efforts addressing greenhouse gas emissions, circularity, and sustainability; raising funds and managing the proposal evaluation process; advising team(s) on technical milestones and tracking progress, managing award resources and logistics, and ensuring a strategy for the widespread use of the technology to achieve high impact; representing the CGC at conferences/events; promoting the CGC research and challenge efforts; developing and implementing strategies for connecting new technologies and solutions to appropriate users; and performing other duties as needed.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; five years’ experience working at the intersection of R&D and business; technical expertise in the climate impact of the entire textile industry; R&D leadership experience, including in organizational, project, and/or industry (e.g., technical society) leadership roles; strong business acumen and understanding of the role that new technologies might play in reducing the GHG created by the textile sector; excellent written and oral communication skills; willingness to work in a collaborative environment; and discretion and judgment with confidential information/issues.  PREFERRED:  doctoral degree in a scientific/engineering field, established relationships with MIT stakeholders, proven ability to collaborate with key organizations in the textile industry, and evidence of the ability to secure funding.  Job #22809-10
