Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Associate

USC Center for Generative AI and Society

USC Rossier School of Education

The USC Center for Generative AI and Society, in collaboration with the USC Rossier School of Education, is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral research associate to be supervised by Dr. Stephen Aguilar and by Dr. Gale Sinatra. The newly formed center’s efforts focus on the application and innovation of generative AI in educational settings. Specifically, the postdoctoral research associate hired will help further the goals of the center by helping to investigate how, when, and why students and instructors use generative AI to support their learning and instruction, respectively.

The successful candidate will be involved in designing studies, collecting data, conducting interviews, and analyzing data from surveys, trace data (from learning management systems or comparable platforms), and interviews with instructors and students. The position will also involve preparing reports for funding agencies and writing publications and conference presentations to communicate project findings.

An earned doctoral degree in educational technology, learning analytics, data science, psychology, education or related fields is required, as is a developing record of relevant publications. The successful candidate should have excellent statistical and data analysis skills. Experience analyzing large unstructured data sets (e.g., trace data from LMS systems) is a plus, but not required. The successful candidate should also have experience and knowledge of correlational, experimental, qualitative and/or design-based research.

Applicants should provide a cover letter, curriculum vitae, example of a recent publication or writing sample (e.g., journal manuscript, manuscript in preparation), and the names and email addresses for three references deeply familiar with the candidate’s skills and record. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The position is anticipated to begin as soon as July, 2023.

The annual base salary range for this position is $64,480-$72,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Please contact Dr. Stephen Aguilar (aguilars@usc.edu ) with any questions about this position.
