Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Performs utility and building electrical system and equipment infrastructure assessments and oversees the design and replacement / upgrade of electrical and emergency power equipment and systems. Performs project management responsibilities for electrical system upgrade efforts. Assists Electrical Services Personnel in testing, trouble-shooting and analysis of electrical systems and equipment.
Provides analysis, design review drawings and construction support for FM organization including Planning & Construction, MEDCO utilities, Engineering & Energy and Operations & Maintenance and independent college projects and construction activities. Assures that industry codes and standards are applied to design and construction activities and supports energy saving projects. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar related technology field.

Experience:
  • Three (3)- Five (5) years of experience including design, analysis, and evaluation of electrical infrastructure is required. Experience should be in performing similar duties with complex electrical utility and building systems.
  • Experience with building electrical systems operating at 120/208 and 277/480 volts is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of electrical generating and emergency power systems.
  • Knowledge of building, electrical, safety codes, products, and best current practices in the installation and operation of building electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment testing and commissioning techniques and practices.
  • Must be an effective communicator both orally and in written form.
  • Must have the ability to use computers and be adept at using Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, webmail applications, and computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Professional Engineering License granted in the United States.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in the design of building and infrastructure electrical systems, including switchgear, emergency generators, UPSs, and building service entrances. 
  • Project and contract management experience.
  • Knowledge and experience analyzing electrical systems utilizing software such as SKM Power tools or ETap are highly desirable.
  • Previous field experience with Service Entrance equipment installation.
  • Experience with underground/overhead 13.8/7.2KV electrical distribution.
  • Lighting fixture selection and specification of lighting control systems.

Additional Certifications:

Incumbent must possess a driver’s license, as duties require the incumbent to travel to and from meetings and project sites both on and off campus. If driving a State vehicle, incumbent must possess a valid MD Class C driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than six (6) points.

Must have the ability to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from ladders; to manipulate equipment, tools and supplies; to have the manual dexterity to operate a computer; to wear and work in personal protective equipment (safety footwear, hard hat, protective eye and ear wear, etc.); to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to lift 70 pounds. While the physical demands listed above may be experienced, the position is primarily an office environment.
