Philanthropic Advisor, Office of Philanthropic Partnerships (OPP)

Job Description

PHILANTHROPIC ADVISOR, OFFICE OF PHILANTHROPIC PARTNERSHIPS (OPP), Resource Development (2 openings), to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individuals and corporations with the potential to support MIT philanthropically at the principal giving level ($5,000,000 and above).  Will have dual responsibility for building relationships with principal prospect donor families and corporations domestically and globally and building a portfolio of new prospects to cultivate unaffiliated philanthropic high-net-worth individuals and corporations; and work with MIT academic and administrative colleagues to help develop meaningful relationships with significant donors, often traveling with the president, senior leaders, and faculty to visit prospects.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree; ten years’ direct fundraising experience, including closing gifts at the major and philanthropic gift levels; experience working with and ability to inspire high-net-worth individuals to provide significant financial support to MIT, and to raise donor sights, articulate aspirational goals and ideas, set priorities, and present philanthropic opportunities; experience working with and ability to garner the trust and confidence of faculty, senior officers, corporation members, fellow development professionals, and other key constituents; comprehensive understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors; strategic approach to responsibilities and a record of accomplishment in a position requiring independent planning and efficient utilization of time and resources in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment; support for MIT’s commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion; good judgment with confidential information; excellent interpersonal, analytical, collaboration, and written and verbal communication skills; ability to develop and negotiate complex relationships and proposals; and proficiency with standard applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, PowerPoint) and fundraising databases.  Job #22199-12


Must be able to travel with and staff the president, senior officers, and faculty on key meetings with prospects and donors approximately 35% - 45% of the time.

This position will be hybrid, with a combination of on-campus and remote work.
