Development Assistant

Job Description

DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANTSchool of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), to support the assistant dean for development in all fundraising activities, including donor relations, stewardship, event management, communications, and project management; and perform a full range of administrative duties, including editing, filing, database management, proofreading, and coordinating travel.  Will manage on-campus, local, and national development and cultivation events, including developing invitation selection criteria, database management, and organizing all logistics (e.g., vendor selection, contract negotiation, travel, and day-of-event execution; write, design, and manage the printing and distribution of invitations and event handouts; assist with donor stewardship activities, track annual stewardship reporting for endowed and expendable funds, and collaborate with the other department development officers to assure compliance and accuracy in stewardship activities; coordinate the monthly gift acknowledgement process and serve as liaison for gift reports for SHASS units; assemble travel books, including itineraries, briefing materials, and transportation logistics; process travel vouchers/requisitions, event POs/RFPs, and expense reports; handle procurement; maintain files and communication materials; and assist with calendar management for the assistant dean and with overall office organization.  

Job Requirements:
REQUIRED:  high school diploma or its equivalent; three years’ administrative, office, or related experience; effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; tact, good judgment, and discretion with confidential information; ability to use proven time management skills to juggle multiple projects independently despite frequent interruptions; flexibility; ability to work in a team-oriented environment; and comprehensive knowledge of office procedures and computer systems, including experience with and/or willingness to learn Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), FileMaker, MIT’s fundraising database operations, and Adobe Creative Suite.  PREFERRED:  bachelor’s degree, familiarity with development/fundraising operations and/or higher education.  Job #22803-5
