Postdoctoral Associate

Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), to work with research scientist Dr. Guiyan Zang on a project investigating long-distance hydrogen carriers comparison.  The project will compare the efficiency, cost, and emissions of hydrogen carriers using a common analytical framework. Will postulate complete production and use scenarios for one-way carriers of ammonia, methanol, liquefied electro-methane (liquified e-methane), and liquid H2 and two-way carriers of solid-metal-hydrides (MH), aluminum, and liquid organic hydrogen carriers (LOHC). The project activities include process simulation and scale-up to derive mass and energy balances for all stages including hydrogen production, hydrogen carrier production, carrier storage and transportation, and carrier dehydrogenation and/or end use; techno-economic analysis (TEA) to compare the cost and economic risks of each energy carrier; and life cycle analysis (LCA) to indicate the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and criteria air pollutants (CAP) for the complete life cycle for each hydrogen carrier.

The position offers an opportunity to interact and work closely with researchers at MIT Energy Initiative’s Future Energy Systems Center.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering or a subject pertinent to the research area; ability to regularly present research results in meetings and workshops, prepare quarterly progress reports, and publish papers at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals; excellent communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritize work, and meet deadlines; fluency in spoken and written English. Job #22805

To apply for this opportunity, applicants should submit their application material via the MIT website and send their application package (full CV and a research statement) to Dr. Guiyan Zang at guiyanza@mit.edu.  Applicants should also arrange to have at least two letters of recommendation sent to Dr Zang’s email address.

The project will be based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge, MA, with the option of working a hybrid schedule.  For further information on the group and related projects, please feel free to contact Dr. Guiyan Zang (guiyanza@mit.edu).
