Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior EOF Counselor for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The Senior EOF Counselor for SEBS EOF reports to the EOF Manager/Assistant Director and is responsible for assuring successful levels of student academic achievement and graduation for an assigned caseload of SEBS EOF undergraduate students.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Aids students in their personal adjustment and transition to the collegiate environment.
  • Provides orientation to the campus culture.
  • Makes student referrals to appropriate university offices and outside agencies.
  • Advocates for the EOF program and students.
  • initiates programming to enhance student retention in STEM majors.
  • Provides academic, personal, emotional, financial and career advisement. in addition to facilitating student success workshops/seminars.
  • Monitors all students emotional concerns, employing effective counseling strategies to promote academic achievement, enhanced performance, and reduce student attrition.
  • Documents services rendered to students.
  • Assists program administration with identification of and outreach to department and agencies that will assist with addressing emotional well-being of all students.
  • Renders a comprehensive network of counseling activities that relate directly to the unique needs of the SEBS EOF student population.
  • initiates and maintains collaborations with university and outside agencies to promote financial aid awareness, emotional well-being and overall student retention.
  • Develops intervention strategies for college success while serving as part of the Rutgers, SEBS and EOF administrative team.
  • Supports the classroom facilitator/instructor of the first year and transfer student courses, lead seminar topics and is a member of the recruitment team.
  • Navigates all financial aid systems at the University to accurately advise all SEBS EOF students.
  • Supports the mission of the Academic and Resident Life components of the Summer Institute Program serving as supervisor to residence life summer staff.
  • Coordinates the Residence Life component and contributes to summer academic planning and execution of academic goals.
  • Establishes a rapport, develop and maintain appropriate network and strategies, inside and outside the university related to our alumni.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a Master’s Degree in STEM field related to SEBS majors, Higher Education Administration, or Student/Academic Affairs or related student development experiences in a college setting with underrepresented college students is key.
  • Requires experience with college admissions, financial aid systems, college recruitment, and outreach, working with students from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Experience in student students affairs working with students enrolled in STEM majors is required.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong listening, written and verbal skills with the ability to work on group projects and team-oriented tasks are necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish (speak, read, write) is preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Extensive experience with web-based applications, telework software and MS Office application –Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Familiarity with Zoom, WebEx, Canvas, Infographics, and social media platforms – Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Special Conditions
  • Must be able work in a dynamic environment that requires evening and weekend hours, particularly during the months of July and August

Immunization Requirements
