Job Summary

 

Department Purpose

The UC Davis Genome Center (UCDGC), in the College of Biological Sciences, coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. The Metabolomics Core is a service facility and part of the UC Davis Genome Center.

 

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, provide general laboratory support in a specialized analytical chemistry environment. Responsible for routine preparation and analysis of biological samples for quantitative analysis using sophisticated instrumentation including gas and liquid mass spectrometers and tandem mass spectrometers.
Provide training and oversight to students and colleagues with respect to sample handling, preparation and data analysis. Perform routine assessment of instrument performance and simple preventative maintenance of advanced instrumentation under the guidance of the principal investigator.
Responsible for the enhancement of data management and quality assurance spreadsheets through the implementation of simple applications. Aid in the general maintenance of the laboratory by following appropriate safety protocols, logging incoming samples into the laboratory records, and supporting the maintenance of a clean working environment, prioritization of efforts will be made by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:         

  • Experience with solid phase and liquid/liquid extraction techniques.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Skills preparing samples for organic analysis using internal standard methodology and strict quality assurance guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Skills using analytical software for qualitative review of metabolomic data.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:         

  • Experience with electrospray ionization mass spectrometry for quantitative analysis.
  • Experience using gas or liquid chromatography with mass spectral detection for quantitative analysis.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Skills in the operation and maintenance of an chromatographs and mass spectrometers.
