The Weinberg Laboratory has an opening for a motivated, compassionate Life Science Research Professional with an interest in animal models of development of blood and immunity. Successful candidates will join the Pediatric Division of Stem Cell Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine at Stanford University, School of Medicine.

Our group aims to integrate cellular and molecular studies of blood cell development, postnatal immune reconstitution in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients and the aged. We are interested in understanding the pathways involved by which development of blood cells is impaired, and developing drug, cytokine, cell and gene therapies to overcome these defects in order to provide functional immunity for transplant recipients and the aged. Studies involve 1) studies of mice with genetic or acquired abnormalities of blood and immune cell development and 2) studies to test treatments of genetic abnormalities of blood and immune cell development. Two genetic diseases of particular interest are Fanconi anemia and the Chromosome 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, aka “DiGeorge Syndrome”, Studies may involve drugs, recombinant DNA or cell transplantation as therapeutics.

Our lab employs: experimental administration of drugs to enhance blood cell development and prevent injury from either genetic diseases like Fanconi anemia or environmentally induced injury, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, tissue culture, functional in vitro T cell assays, flow cytometry and CyTOF, transcriptome and immunoreceptor sequence analyses, in vivo mouse and chimeric mouse models.

The project will focus on:

Duties include:

• Plan and perform experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory. Interpret and perform basic analyses of results.
• Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and related research.
• Offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with graduate post-doctoral individuals.
• Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
• Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
• Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
• Help orient and train new staff or students.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the University reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $62,000.00 to $72,000.00.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field or Associate’s degree AND 2+ years of experience in related biology research.

Additional experience in experimental use of animals very desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

• General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
• Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
