As the Group Supervisor for Applications, you will...

 

  • Lead and mentor a group of approximately 100 accomplished software development and business analysis professionals in the design, configuration, development, delivery and operation of hundreds of enterprise applications covering all business functions supporting a $2B company. Services are delivered using the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) and project management best practices.
  • Lead the delivery of enterprise applications supporting all business operations including - financial planning, billing, accounts payable, procurement, payroll, human resources, facilities management, space planning, IT services, and security services. Also responsible for a suite of engineering applications supporting the design and fabrication of spacecraft and other sophisticated mechanical-electrical systems. Service ownership duties include: service definition, ensuring high quality service delivery and operational performance, ensuring/improving (internal) customer satisfaction, marketing/promoting services, providing related training.
  • Work with key stakeholders for each application area to develop and maintain roadmaps and priorities for the respective application support areas. Represent the department in executive-level briefings and enterprise committees on business applications and related activities.
  • Work closely with the ITSD Strategy Team (direct reports to the CIO and peer supervisors) to develop and implement department-level strategy and objectives; ensure success of critical department projects and initiatives; ensure a positive work environment and sustain a culture of excellence. Work on enterprise initiatives, as required, especially in support of innovation and collaboration at the Applied Physics Laboratory.
  • Recruit, develop, and be responsible for a diverse and highly skilled workforce with expertise in the core technical areas of the Group. Define expectations, mentor performance, coordinate salary actions, and provide professional development. Identify and develop key talent for future leadership roles.
  • Supervise the Group's budget to ensure spending is within targets. Ensure effective execution of tasks within the Group while handling workload and coverage. Define, negotiate, and track Group level overhead and capital funding allocations and office space. Work closely with the Program Management staff to forecast and track resource needs and ensure the cost effectiveness of the Group’s work.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

 

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, or related field.
  • Have over 12 years of experience in management/ supervisory roles of the development or operation of enterprise applications.
  • Have strong demonstrated skills in: leadership, strategy, organization, and planning, with the ability to establish relationships and effectively interact with all levels of staff and management. Possess strong communication skills, both oral and written and strong customer interaction skills.
  • Have experience with hiring, training, performance management, and mentor staff.
  • Have a proven track record of successfully leading and motivating teams in solving complex problems.
  • Have experience with ITIL (pref. certification), Service Management, and Operations Management.
  • Are willing and able to work occasional weekends and other after hours work to handle and/or complete critical project/work-related business needs.
  • Are able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • Possess a Master’s degree in Information Systems, or related field.
  • Have prior experience as a line manager at the Group Supervisor level.   
  • Have experience as a Program Manager; experience with matrix management, and managing projects involving at least 10 people.
  • Have experience managing a multi-million dollar budget.
