ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Director of the Placement and Testing Center reports to the Dean of Enrollment and Completion in the Student Affairs Division. The Director provides college-wide coordination of equity-centered, multiple-measure placement policies and procedures (to include standardized placement methods, directed self-placement, transcript placement, placement reciprocity) in alignment with faculty, State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC), Washington State and other requirements. This position is responsible for project and program management, as well as long term planning in alignment with overall mission/vision and student affairs initiatives of the Placement and Testing Center. This position also provides divisional leadership for the application of customer relationship management systems to support enrollment, retention, and completion practices for increased student outcomes achievement. The Director will provide overall accountability to both fiscal and legal operational guidelines/requirements, and establish and communicate clear expectations of employees, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality delivery of service.

 

Position Responsibilities

Placement
  • Collaborate with instructional divisions in the selection and/or development, and administration of placement policies and tools, ensuring equity and access for all students
  • Coordinate with faculty and Institutional Research on the assessment of placement outcomes and subsequent course taking behavior with particular attention to equitable placement across demographics
  • Consult with Instructional Support Services to develop and maintain the colleges placement coding structure to indicate course eligibility for requisite checking
  • Consult with divisions and suggest revisions in course prerequisite language to ensure division requirements are satisfied while removing barriers to course enrollment for eligible students
  • Ensure compliance with state and national standards, agreements, and policy directives regarding placement and course eligibility

Testing
  • Oversee administration of instructional, placement, program admissions, proctored, and computer based (including GED®) testing programs
  • Stay current with, disseminate, and support policies and best practices for emerging assessment and testing technologies; formulate, recommend and implement where necessary
  • Serve as a liaison between Placement & Testing and other campus constituencies, including instructional divisions, International Programs, eLearning/Distance Education, and Continuing Education regarding testing requests and needs
  • Oversee administration of Green River’s GED® testing program, ensuring adherence to all federal and state guidelines/requirements
  • Oversee preparation of annual risk assessment materials for assessment and testing

Student Communications
  • In collaboration with the Student Affairs division and the College Relations department, oversee implementation, training, and maintenance of CRM system
  • In collaboration with campus stakeholders, build, manage and execute responsive communication plans for prospective and admitted students using the college's (CRM) system, to include guidance and support of strategic reporting and analysis of campaign efficacy and recommendation of actions
  • Create and maintain documentation of technology setup, processes, policies, and training materials
  • Facilitate regular initial and ongoing training for campus users to increase user adoption

Leadership and Management
  • Communicate regularly with diverse individuals and groups, including students, faculty, staff, other institutions, and external stakeholders
  • Examine all policies, procedures, and processes with an equity focus
  • Provide overall accountability to both fiscal and legal operational guidelines/requirements through management of departmental budgets, approval of expenditures, and allocation of resources in support of key college initiatives.
  • Assure privacy of academic and other student records in compliance with FERPA guidelines
  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of a workable disaster recovery plan that will allow service areas to function in the event of catastrophic circumstances.
  • Ensure equitable, articulated, consistent application of policy and procedure in service areas

Staff Supervision, Training, and Evaluation
  • Recruit, lead, manage, coach and mentor staff to maximize their success
  • Set and communicate clear expectations to staff to ensure accountability
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and act upon leave requests

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree and three or more years of experience in progressively responsible supervisory positions.
  • Must have strong and demonstrable supervisory knowledge and performance leadership skills to be able to create and nurture a performance-based culture that supports efforts to accomplish the college’s mission and goals
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both orally and in writing, and have strong interpersonal and customer service skills when interacting with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders
  • Must effectively use MS Office, the internet, electronic databases and PeopleSoft and have the ability to learn, adapt to, and train others in the use of emerging technology
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence and participation in institutional programs with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, race, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to diverse, inclusive, and equitable working and learning environments

  • Master’s Degree

  • PearsonVUE Test Administrator Certification
