The ?Writing Program? in the English Department at Rutgers University-New Brunswick is pleased to invite applications for the David Bartholomae Postdoctoral Lectureship in Writing. This is a one-year, full-time, non-tenure-track position with a start date of September 1, 2023. ? The salary? for the 2023–2024 academic year is $62,912 plus health and retirement benefits. Bartholomae Lecturers are eligible for conference travel grants.
The Bartholomae Lectureship program is a collaboration between the Writing Program in the Department of English and the Division of Humanities in the School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers-New Brunswick. Lectureships will be awarded annually to 6 recent graduates of the Humanities PhD programs in the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers-NB. For the 2023 cohort, applicants must have received their PhD between January 2021 and October 2023. See below for additional information about eligibility.
The Bartholomae Lectureship program has several goals. First, the program seeks to support the careers of recent PhD graduates by providing instructional experience in writing and experience in writing program administration, as well as an extra year of support during a difficult job market. The normal teaching load will be 3-3. Bartholomae Lecturers will be expected to contribute to administration and leadership activities in the program. Second, the program seeks to improve the teaching of writing across the disciplines by involving graduates from a wide range of humanities. Finally, the program seeks to improve the experience of our undergraduates by building a cohort of experienced and talented instructors with PhDs from our excellent graduate programs.

This postdoctoral lectureship is nonrenewable; however, David Bartholomae Postdoctoral Lecturers are welcome to apply to any future advertised positions the Writing Program may issue for renewable non-tenure-track teaching instructors.
This is a full-time teaching and administrative position with no research component. All David Bartholomae Lecturers are required to participate in a three-day, in-person orientation the week of August 29, 2023 and will teach eighteen credits in the Writing Program during the academic year. David Bartholomae Lecturers will contribute to the administration and co-curricular programming of the Writing Program. Those opportunities and responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the Writing Program Director and Executive Director.
Administrative activities of the lecturers may include coordinating and facilitating professional development events; participating in curricular assessment and revision; collaborating on the development of Writing Program publications and documents; contributing to the organization of the annual Undergraduate Research Writing Conference; and other duties as assigned by the Directors. The Writing Program provides instruction to more than 18,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year, and all courses share the curricular goal of helping students establish a foundation in writing and critical thinking practices.

COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35 , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility . Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine . Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Minimum Education and Experience
Successful candidates must have received their PhD from one of the Humanities graduate programs in the School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers-NB, between January 1, 2021 and (pending) October 31, 2023. Candidates who do not yet have the degree in hand must have a defense scheduled on or before September 1, 2023 and must submit a letter of verification from the appropriate Graduate Program Director. A record of teaching excellence is required. Appointment decisions will be determined by evaluation of the candidate’s submitted application materials, including CV, letters of recommendation, SIRS course evaluations, and Teaching Statement. Finalists will be invited to an in-person interview.
