Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

University Honors is a two-year living-learning program in the Honors College at the University of Maryland.

The Program Manager provides direction for finance, personnel, facilities, and operations in University Honors. Primary responsibilities include the program’s financial transactions and budget processes; management of personnel actions, hiring, contracts, and onboarding; oversight of the operations of the central office and facilities in the University Honors Commons; and administrative support for staff and faculty.

The Program Manager reports to the Director of University Honors and supervises one Graduate Assistant and a group of Undergraduate Assistants.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

Experience:

Three years of full-time experience (or equivalent) in one or more of the following areas in an academic setting: personnel management; budget and finance; program operations and planning; office management and administrative support.

  • Strong familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Familiarity with systems in use at UMD or other USM institutions (e.g., Workday, Concur, BPM, PHR, KFS, eTerp, SIS).
  • Graduate degree(s) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with college/university faculty and administrators.
  • Five or more years of full-time administrative experience in an academic setting.
  • Experience in setting up and maintaining office and classroom technology.
  • Experience in training, supervising, and supporting students and/or staff.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of the values, complexity, and diversity of a public higher education institution.

Physical Demands

Most work takes place in a traditional office environment and requires the ability to operate standard equipment and keyboards. The position requires occasional travel to participate in meetings and events on campus and off. May be required to lift, carry, push, or pull work-related materials and objects. Some weekend and evening work is required.
