About the College of Education’s Student Services and Advising Center:
The Student Services & Advising Center (SSAC) strives to successfully engage students in the academic and social life of the college and university community while maximizing students’ potential to progress towards degree completion and develop necessary skills and competencies that will enable them to become effective educators and professionals. The majority of our 600 undergraduate students are enrolled in teacher preparation programs, culminating in licensure. The SSAC staff is comprised of a team providing professional support for student recruitment, advising, and engagement opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. The SSAC reports to the Sr. Director for Student Services and is part of the Student Success area in the College of Education, led by the Associate Dean for Student Success. Professional growth is encouraged through ongoing learning opportunities offered for all members of the College of Education’s Student Success team.

Essential Job Duties

The Scholarship Program Specialist and Assistant to the Associate Dean position will serve as the lead specialist for the College of Education Undergraduate Scholarship program and assist the Associate Dean for Student Success.

The Scholarship Program Specialist and Assistant to the Associate Dean position’s essential duties include:
  • Manage College of Education Undergraduate scholarship applications, processing, and negotiations;
  • Manage the awarding, accuracy, reconciling, and reporting of scholarship information in publications and web pages;
  • Support pipeline and community outreach initiatives for the College of Education (framework, logistics, finance, website, publications, etc.);
  • Provide excellent customer service and reception to students, employees, and other contacts;
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns with confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy in a timely manner;
  • Apply knowledge of University policies as it relates to Scholarship Programs and Student Engagement. Serve as an information source in analyzing and explaining policies and procedures in cases of student grievances;
  • Provide administrative support to the Associate Dean for Student Success including:
    • Coordinate with and provide service to sub-units within the Dean’s Office.
    • Maintain calendar and activity scheduling for Associate Dean.
    • Prepare and maintain travel authorization and financial budget and spreadsheets for the Associate Dean.
    • Develop, analyze, and report information for specifically assigned projects.
  • Provide program/project management in support of the Associate Dean in developing, analyzing, researching, and reporting information for assigned projects and extracting usable data for reports;
  • Serve as a member of the support team to the Dean of the College of Education. This includes but is not limited to shared efforts of rotating front-facing coverage, event planning, and hospitality/ office supply inventory maintenance.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software;
  • Familiarity with grants;
  • Data mining and ability to analyze and synthesize data;
  • Strong cross-cultural and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to practice confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy in communications and have a clear ability to determine and take appropriate action in sensitive matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in K12 setting;
  • Knowledge of University PackAssist processes and protocol;
  • Bilingual
  • Bachelor’s Degree or initial licensure in teacher education
