    Position description

    Category:
    Investigator

    Lab/Area:
    Gladstone Institute of Virology

    Description:
In Residence Faculty Position | UCSF Department of Microbiology and Immunology/Gladstone Institute of Virology

We invite applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Senior Investigator at the Gladstone Institute of Virology (GIV). Focused on leading-edge biomedical research, Gladstone Institutes is an independent, not-for-profit research organization. It is affiliated with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and houses 5 institutes totaling 30 labs in two buildings located on UCSF’s Mission Bay Campus. The successful candidate will have a joint faculty appointment as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor in the In-Residence faculty series in the UCSF Department of Microbiology and Immunology, and in the UCSF BMS graduate training program.

Gladstone investigators direct world-class research programs that span neurological and cardiovascular diseases, cancer, immunology, virology and bioinformatics, all united by a common desire to overcome unsolved diseases through transformative biomedical research. Our nimble structure and proximity to a world-renowned clinical and research university and to the San Francisco Bay Area biotechnology hub make for a uniquely exciting and supportive environment for investigators interested in taking risks and in building wide collaboration networks.

The Gladstone Institute of Virology has a longstanding commitment to HIV Cure research and has recently added a focus on SARS-CoV-2 research. Primary criteria for appointment at the GIV will be outstanding records of innovative research, academic performance and commitment to disease-focused research in virology, host immune responses to viruses, or pandemic preparedness. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, viral evolution (including phages, influenza, and other viruses of pandemic potential), viral vector biology, and innate and adaptive (especially B cell) immune responses to viruses.
Other selection criteria include demonstrated interest in virology research and relevance to current and future pandemics, and a track record of independent grant support. To qualify for a faculty appointment at UCSF, applicants must possess a medical or doctoral degree, and appropriate post-MD or postdoctoral training at the time of appointment. Gladstone’s mission emphasizes diversity and mentoring, and successful applicants will be committed to this mission.

Candidates must apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF04495 , with a cover letter, CV, Statement of Research, Statement of Teaching, Statement of Contributions to Diversity, and the names, titles, and e-mail addresses of three to five references who we may contact directly. Applicants’ materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission. Applications received outside of the online process cannot be considered, but informal inquiries can be directed to Dr. Melanie Ott at melanie.ott@gladstone.ucsf.edu .

This recruitment effort will continue until the position is filled; to ensure full consideration, interested individuals should apply by July 1, 2023.

    Hiring Range (DOE):
    $150K-$350K
*This position will be exclusively funded by Gladstone Institute of Virology.
