Position Summary:
A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available immediately in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska in the Nebraska Outcomes Research Lab (https://www.unmc.edu/anesthesia/research/dr-bartels-lab.html ). The emphasis is on accessing existing large datasets in addition to conducting large pragmatic clinical trials as well as participating in conventional RCTs. Biostatistical support is available. Our research is highly collaborative, and we work successfully with researchers in internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, public health, and biostatistics. A principal focus of our group is to provide meaningful mentoring to medical students, trainees, and junior faculty—we have brought 30+ mentees to their first peer-reviewed publications and have received support from FAER, ARCS, and IARS for our students. In addition to intramural funding, current extramural funding for our group is from AHRQ – Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (R01), NIH – National Institute on Drug Abuse (K23), NIH – National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (R13), Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (Resident Scholar, Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship programs), and Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists Kaplan Leadership Award. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic group and will receive significant mentoring in manuscript/grant writing, including training junior trainees. Occasional travel to present research results at scientific conferences will be supported.
Required Qualifications:
M.D. or Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Public Health, or Social Sciences or related field.
Experience in one or more of the research approaches described in the position summary.
Preference will be given to candidates with Pre/Postdoctoral research experience in observational clinical research, clinical trials, mixed methods research, and/or research in perioperative medicine and relevant fields, including anesthesiology, pain medicine, substance use disorders, and mental health.
Supplemental Qualifications:
Candidates should be experienced in writing scientific manuscripts.
Experience with Microsoft Office is essential. Strong organizational and communications skills, and the ability to work independently and in a group setting is expected.
