Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Our team is composed of developers, analysts, testers, UX designers, data scientists, and customer support operating in an Agile environment.

The CATT Lab is currently seeking a skilled Robotics Specialist to join our team for an exciting cyber-physical analysis project. As a Robotics Specialist, you will play a crucial role in establishing the “pattern of life” for information flow from a Clearpath Husky robot. This project involves collecting and analyzing multimodal data to identify deviations from the established patterns. This position requires US citizenship as the project is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Army Research Lab (ARL).

Our office is in College Park near the University of Maryland, easily accessible by DC Metro, MARC train, bus, car, and bike. You will primarily work onsite at the UMD Technology Ventures Building, with occasional travel to various MD ARL facilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

The Robotics Specialist will work closely with a team of hardware and software security, machine learning, and visualization staff to navigate, collect, and analyze a Clearpath Husky robot. This candidate should be proficient with ROS to navigate the Husky autonomously, have strong knowledge of robotics principles, and have experience with robotic data collection and analysis. Familiarity with cyber-physical systems, understanding of network traffic analysis, and experience with hardware and software security practices, as well as knowledge of machine learning techniques and data visualization tools, are also preferred.

In this project, we will be collecting multimodal data from various levels to gain a comprehensive understanding of the information flow and the robot’s autonomy stack. This includes data from both the network and robotic aspects, as well as data from the hardware and operating system (OS) levels, such as system call data.

Responsibilies include:
  • Serve as ROS expert and lead data collection scenarios designed by team.
  • Autonomously drive a Clearpath Husky robot.
  • Troubleshoot Clearpath Husky robot hardware and software issues as they arise.
  • Understand hardware and GPU requirements for working with robots, autonomy stacks and simulators.
  • Support team with understanding ROS topics and the autonomy stack.
  • Document ROS topic mapping to various components and sensors.
  • Support script development and automation of parsing of data for analysis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Robotics or a related field.

Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience with ROS.
  • 2+ years of experience with Python.
  • 2+ years of experience with C++.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in a Linux environment (Ubuntu OS).
  • Strong communications skills.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle technical stacks.

US citizenship required.

  • Master’s or PhD Degree in Robotics or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with ROS.
  • 5+ years of experience with Python.
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL.
  • Familiarity with UGVs and/or Clearpath UGVs.
  • Experience using Docker.
  • Experience working with Git.
  • Experience using Nvidia GPUs.
  • Experience with YAML.
  • Interest in fusing robotics with machine learning and visualization techniques.
