Summary of Job Duties:

The candidate will work with the PI to evaluate integrated management strategies against the southern root-knot nematode in soybean and cotton production systems in lab, greenhouse, and small plot trials located in various areas of the state. Research will focus on seedling protection by nematicides and host plant resistance mechanisms and characterization. The postdoctoral research scientist will be expected to assist in other research projects in other cropping systems (such as survey of peanut diseases) as it relates to the Extension plant pathology program at the Lonoke Extension Center.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct hypothesis driven research in host plant resistance, nematicide efficacy and movement, pathogen sensitivity to fungicides, and/or fungal-nematode interaction studies in the lab, greenhouse, and field.
2. Assist with identification of new diseases and survey of peanut diseases across the state.
3. Analyze data a prepare results for presentations and/or publication in Extension or journal articles.
4. Assist with field trials (data collection and processing), maintain laboratory fungal cultures, and various projects that relate to Extension Plant Pathology at Lonoke Extension Center.
5. Indecently conduct creative studies that affect the farmers of Arkansas in management of fungal or nematode diseases.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 
PhD in plant pathology, nematology or a closely related field. Working with microscope. Ability to drive. Must have authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in lab and greenhouse research, specifically fungal diseases and nematodes on agronomic field crops. Experience in assessment of protecting seedling with seed-applied fungicides or nematicides and impact of soil microbiome on nematicide/fungicide efficacy. Experience evaluating nematicide efficacy and/or characterization of the mechanisms of host plant resistance against fungal or nematodes. Demonstrate competence in data collection, statistical analysis, interpretation, disease modeling, `and publication in scientific journals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
