Position Summary
The Hawkins lab in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, IN, is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join our team to study a novel genetically engineered mouse model of ovarian endometriosis and the tumor microenvironment leading to ovarian cancer.
General Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will love working with mice or want to gain additional experience in female reproductive tract studies in genetically engineered mice.

  • Technical responsibilities include:
    • management of the breeding colony
    • tail genotyping by PCR and mail-out genotyping service
    • enrolling and organizing mice in experiments
    • carrying out experiments including surgical procedures in mice and molecular biology ((immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, spatial transcriptomics, single-cell RNA sequencing analysis, qPCR)
    • analyzing data
    • communicating results including the creation of tables and display figures
    • working with other team members
  • Extensive experience in rodent handling, bioinformatics analyses, molecular biology, and mammalian cell culture are preferred.
  • Independent work on projects, preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals, and participation in weekly laboratory meetings to present and discuss research findings.
  • Experience in bioinformatics and cell biology is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate, propose, and develop new experimental approaches, and generate and analyze data.
  • Knowledge in developing novel approaches, innovative hypotheses, and creative organization is a plus.

Skills:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and must be fluent in English.
  • Ability to work with mice. Training will be provided, but successful applicants must be willing to work or learn to work with mice.
  • Aptitude in organization skills, creativity, meticulous attention to detail, enthusiasm to train the next generation of scientists at the bench, and intellectual curiosity.
  • Capability to manage own time to meet agreed-on deadlines and develop plans for work activities on their own projects within a team.
  • Proficient in demonstrating a high degree of professionalism and commitment to rigor and reproducibility.

Basic Qualifications
Scientist track (non-tenure track for full time research)
Required: Doctorate or terminal degree, as well as evidence of excellent research training, including high impact publications.
Preferred: 4+ years PostDoctoral Fellow experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology
