Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The A. James Clark School of Engineering’s Department of Engineering Information Technology (EIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park, is looking for a Senior IT Coordinator to support the Clark School of Engineering and the Math and Physics Departments from the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences, which includes 15 buildings, 250+ staff, and 1400+ faculty, in a multi-vendor environment. The Senior IT Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to research, identify, compile, and recommend IT solutions that address existing issues, as well as to effect potential improvements in both the internal and external computing environments for the Engineering College, Physics Department, and Math Department, and also to evaluate the related digital risks and provide risk management solutions. This position will report to the Service Desk Manager and work with the other service desk administrators, project administrators, and infrastructure administrators across the EIT team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university required, or equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in supporting Windows software and in addition, a minimum of 3 years in supporting Mac software.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with Microsoft Group Policy
  • One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education. In addition, experience may be substituted by an equivalent combination of graduate level education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proven track record of excellent customer service skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of PC computing hardware and software.
  • Skill in operating supported computers and peripherals to configure computer hardware and software and to analytically design program logic or solve technical problems.
  • Ability to review and analyze processes and procedures and develop/adjust tools and resources while ensuring successful and efficient implementation.
  • Results-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to work both independently, and on a team, on complex projects and demonstrate competency, diplomacy, and a positive attitude in all interactions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.
  • Ability to work and problem solve in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, prioritizing tasks, thinking proactively, and using good judgment and experience to make decisions and maintain deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to work effectively with clients and in teams to provide guidance and instruction to others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and build working relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and complex environment.

Additional Information:

The salary range for this position is $72,000 – $90,000.

Physical Demands

  • Predominantly operates in an office environment and frequently in computer labs, server rooms, and other lab spaces (server rooms and remote data centers). Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Extensive work reviewing computer screens. Long periods of time may be spent in limited spaces for equipment installation, testing, and troubleshooting while in communication with customers or vendor tech support teams; must be able to access a variety of spaces (including under desks) to work on/handle/move computer equipment. Must be able to traverse to different locations on campus with a push cart.
