Overview

The relationship between the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and the Break Through Cancer (BTC) Foundation is one of our most important collaborations. We are searching for a Project Manager who is motivated by building and fostering relationships to inspire and enable scientific research that will lead to innovations in cancer treatment and care. The Project Manager will closely collaborate with a DFCI Principal Investigators and the BTC Project Managers to enable the achievement of research deliverables. The Project Manager will be expected to establish business processes and operational best practices while leading teams to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The Project Manager will exhibit a high degree of integrity, always demonstrating professionalism and handling confidential information appropriately.  The Project Manager will be the point of contact for Dana-Farber investigators engaged in these collaborations, work across administrative offices at Dana-Farber that support the relationship and help to ensure compliance and execution under the terms of the agreement between BTC and Dana-Farber.

The mission of Break Through Cancer is to empower outstanding researchers and physicians to both intercept and find cures for the deadliest cancers by stimulating radical collaboration through TeamLabs.  TeamLabs are the nexus of Break Through Cancer projects. Each TeamLab includes researchers and physicians from five of the world’s top cancer institutions collaboratively working together.  BTC works closely with the TeamLabs to structure their research, get around roadblocks, and get to breakthroughs.

This position is partially remote. Remote work may only be performed from New England states (CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME).

Responsibilities

The DFCI designated project manager will work closely with the DFCI PI(s) and have, among others, the following responsibilities: 

  • Serves as the primary point-of-contact for Break Through Cancer-related matters and consults with co-leaders of Break Through Cancer, Dana-Farber and administrative offices, as needed
  • Provide ongoing operational and project management services to the BTC TeamLab PIs
  • Responsible for day-to-day oversight and management of assigned TeamLab projects
  • Responsibility of, maintaining an up-to-date Milestones and Deliverables Dashboard, for the purposes of tracking progress of the achievement of the milestones and deliverables set forth in the Project Agreement
  • Communicating effectively with scientific researchers
  • Responsible for regulatory work for assigned projects including new protocol submissions, amendments, and facilitating Material Transfer Agreements / Data Use Agreements
  • Responsible for data reporting and management, collection of source documents, use and development of case report forms, adverse events reporting, filing and archiving of study records, and resolution of data queries.
  • Prepare and or complete regulatory related reports and IRB submissions. Maintain and organize study regulatory binders, enter all required study data on an ongoing basis.
  • Coordination and management of clinical samples with investigators and local laboratories
  • Responsible for setting timelines and action plans with various stakeholders within projects including Principal Investigators, collaborators, laboratory-based research staff, Research Data Specialists, and others
  • Works closely with administrative offices at Dana-Farber to ensure compliance and regular communication with BTC regarding agreement terms and conditions, which may include Innovation, Office of General Counsel, Clinical Research Agreements Office and Grants and Contracts.
  • Will work alongside Grant Administrators and Principal Investigators to manage milestone spending based on project aims
  • Responsible for scheduling research team meetings/ conference calls, creation of agendas for meetings, and communication of relevant meeting minutes to the team
  • Assist with the annual progress reporting
  • Performs a variety of other tasks, as needed, to ensure the success of the collaborations.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or related fields required (MA preferred).
  • 5 years of relevant experience in positions involving project management, alliance management, scientific/technical evaluation, in an industrial and/or academic setting preferred.

  • Strong competencies in planning, project management, outsourcing, resource management and organization with the ability to coordinate multiple activities and resources, while maintaining a focus on quality.

  • Knowledge of processes around basic scientific research to include grant submission and progress reports a plus.
  • Knowledge of human subjects research, patient privacy, and data use considerations required; working knowledge of IRB submission and review process is a plus.
  • Demonstrated record of successfully managing programs within complex organizations.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with collaborators and influence without direct supervisory authority.
  • Flexibility with changes in environment and role.
  • Team player who can work independently and thrives in a fast-paced, demanding environment
