Summary of Position

The job involves serving as a research assistant to carry out experiments related to the rearing of parasitoids of the blueberry gall midge (BGMC) using mass collection techniques specific to microhymenoptera. The experiments will be conducted at blueberry farms and wild fields located in Florida, New Hampshire, and Maine during the peak host abundance times.
Additionally, the job entails developing molecular and morphological species concepts for platygastrids found in blueberry farms using a range of techniques such as DNA-barcoding, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and brightfield microscopy. The research assistant will also produce user-friendly identification keys that can be used by growers, extension agents, and researchers for informed pest management practices.

The ideal candidate for the job should possess the ability to identify Platygastridae at the generic level, as well as the ability to identify the species of the Synopeas, Inostemma, and Platygaster genera. The candidate must also have prior experience in DNA barcoding of Platygastridae and must be proficient in using a range of techniques such as Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and 3D reconstruction using Drishti and ImageJ.
