Research Scientist

Job Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST, MIT Quest for Intelligence, to implement VR experiments (and reusable VR testing and infrastructure) for the Quest Intelligence Observatory.  Responsibilities include implementing VR psychophysics experiments to study perception, embodied action planning, and their interactions, guided by experimental designs from Quest leadership; gathering datasets to study 3D scene perception, intuitive physics, theory of mind, and language-informed thinking in virtual reality, guided by Quest PIs and experimental designs; supporting existing collaborations across Quest missions; informing the choice of VR hardware and how to integrate eye tracking, haptics, physiological data, and other sources; and publishing results of research and associated code and models.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  M.S. in computer science, machine learning, or related engineering field; at least three years of experience with Unity, VR, and the implementation and execution of behavioral experiments in VR; experience with software development practices, including git-based version control and CI/CD; excellent project-management, analytical, problem-solving, organizational, decision-making, and written and verbal English communication skills; and ability to work effectively in a highly dynamic hybrid environment across all levels with faculty, staff, students, and other members of the MIT community.  PREFERRED:  Ph.D. in computer science, machine learning, or related engineering field; two years of Python programming experience; understanding of human-computer interaction; and familiarity with one or more cloud platforms.  Job #22788
