Program Manager

Job Description


The Mamdouha S. Bobst Center for Peace and Justice is seeking a skilled Program Manager who will be responsible for executing and administering the day-to-day activities of the Center. The mission of the Bobst Center, which is part of the Department of Politics, is to advance the cause of peace and mutual understanding within countries and across national borders. The Center sponsors research, panel discussions, conferences, seminars and workshops directed toward issues in areas such as conflict and reconciliation, political implications of cultural and social conflicts, nationalism, and regime stability and change, both domestically and around the world. The Program Manager will report to the Director of the Bobst Center and the Senior Manager of Finance and Administration in the Department of Politics.



Academic administration:

  • Working with the director to design and maintain programs that support the mission of the Center, including engaging with other academic units on campus on joint projects and events
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with faculty across campus whose research aligns with the Bobst Center mission
  • Managing the Bobst Center postdoctoral research associate program, which includes the hiring and onboarding processes.
  • Planning and administering Center programming, including identifying and inviting speakers, participants and attendees, identifying and securing venues, developing budgets and monitoring costs, etc.
  • Managing internal and external graduate student grant programs, from the application process to payment.
  • Supervising the work of research assistants; setting RAs up in the system to be paid; tracking hours and RA tasks; serving as liaison between faculty and RAs.

Financial management:

  • Preparing and regularly updating the Center's annual budget
  • Reviewing account balances and analyzing financial data for accuracy. Making corrections as necessary
  • Providing financial reports to the director and senior manager of finance and administration
  • Preparing and processing all Center financial transactions
  • Preparing budgets for funding proposals for outside support
  • Working with vendors to ensure prompt payment of services and to resolve any financial discrepancies

Manage Center communications:

  • Maintaining and updating the Center website, preparing an annual newsletter and other publications and letters, and preparing funding proposals for outside support, all of which include drafting content
  • Collecting data and writing reports on Center activities, including annual Executive Committee meeting materials, annual newsletter, and annual report to the president
  • Assisting in the development of grant proposals

Other administrative tasks:

  • Ordering and maintaining the Center’s inventory of supplies
  • Managing facilities issues for Bobst Hall (including acting as point person for issues concerning building upkeep, maintenance, security, janitorial, plumbing, lock/unlock, heating/air conditioning, etc).
  • Additional administrative tasks as needed and/or assigned by the Center director.


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three to five years of relevant experience, preferably in an academic environment
  • Interest in the Bobst Center’s mission
  • Excellent financial management skills, including budgeting, financial analysis and reporting
  • Event planning and management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with a "can-do" attitude
  • Experience drafting content for websites, newsletters or other publications and materials
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal direct supervision, and handle multiple tasks under pressure
  • Independent judgment to plan and prioritize diverse workload
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft computer applications, especially Excel and Word
  • Strong proficiency in other relevant computer applications such as web design, financial applications (Peoplesoft), or ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality under all circumstances

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Princeton University systems and practices
