Job Context: The VASCULAR ION CHANNEL RESEARCH LABORATORY, located in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, College of Health Sciences, at the UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE, seeks a candidate for a 2-year POSTDOCTORAL POSITION focused on MECHANISMS OF OBESITY-INDUCED VASCULAR DYSFUNCTION. Specifically, the project will involve identifying the effects of altered fatty acid metabolism on ion channel function in vascular cells in the context of obesity. Opportunities will be provided to learn gold standard electrophysiological techniques, ex vivo pressure arteriography, and elements of translational research. Experience working with cells in culture and animal models is required. Candidates with experience working with human subjects in translational studies is preferred but not required. Writing manuscripts and applying for independent research grants will be strongly encouraged

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of this position are to support ongoing studies related to obesity-induced endothelial dysfunction. Cell and animal models of obesity will be used as major approaches to test the hypotheses. Molecular tools and genetic approaches will also be used to control the expression of genes of interest in cells and animal models. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

• Collection, preparation, and analysis of research data. This includes analysis of large bioinformatics data sets, collection, and analysis of pressure arteriography data from small arteries isolated from mice and human subjects, and data produced from various cell culture treatments and approaches (e.g., Western blot, qPCR, imaging, flow cytometry, etc.). With the PI, interpret analyzed data to prepare for publication.
• Willingness to develop and implement new laboratory techniques when needed to test hypotheses and approach research questions.
• Writing research articles as first-author and participation in publications as co-author.
• Presentation of scientific work at research conferences/symposiums.
• Assisting with grant preparation and reporting but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
• Supervising and assisting with training of graduate/undergraduate students and other lab personnel to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency.
• Participating in research training programs as needed.
• Operating and maintaining equipment and instruments 

Qualifications: The candidate should have a Ph.D. at the time of the appointment from an accredited college or university in molecular and cellular physiology, physiology, exercise science/physiology, or related fields. Prior experience working with cells in culture and working with small rodent models is required (mice or rats). Prior experience recruiting or working with human subjects is preferred though not required. Experience in meeting project deadlines and working in a team environment will be a crucial skill.
