Specifically, the project will involve identifying the effects of altered fatty acid metabolism on ion channel function in vascular cells in the context of obesity. Opportunities will be provided to learn gold standard electrophysiological techniques, ex vivo pressure arteriography, and elements of translational research. Experience working with cells in culture and animal models is required. Candidates with experience working with human subjects in translational studies is preferred but not required. Writing manuscripts and applying for independent research grants will be strongly encouraged

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of this position are to support ongoing studies related to obesity-induced endothelial dysfunction. Molecular tools and genetic approaches will also be used to control the expression of genes of interest in cells and animal models. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collection, preparation, and analysis of research data. This includes analysis of large bioinformatics data sets, collection, and analysis of pressure arteriography data from small arteries isolated from mice and human subjects, and data produced from various cell culture treatments and approaches (e.g., Western blot, qPCR, imaging, flow cytometry, etc.). With the PI, interpret analyzed data to prepare for publication.
