Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Edit/Media Specialist for the Rutgers Communications and Marketing (R-Comm) department. This position will lead, strategize, manage, and execute web and digital content, publications associated with Rutgers New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Conceptualizes, researches, and executes projects and initiatives requiring a high degree of sophistication and depth of knowledge promote both Rutgers New Brunswick and RBHS brands.
  • Develops and implements content strategies that align with the user experience and organizational objectives.
  • Works directly in content management systems (Drupal and Wordpress) and other tools to design, maintain and optimize webpages and produce digital communications.
  • Measures and reports on the effectiveness of content strategies and makes recommendations for improvement and conducts audits to ensure that all content aligns with brand voice and messaging.
  • Collaborates with the creative team to ensure all content is optimized for user engagement and conversion.
  • Creates and establishes processes and schedules to liaise with internal constituents and externally with vendors to ensure streamline processes for all projects.
  • Develops and project manages the workflow of incoming assignments and ensures all projects are delivered on time.
  • Keeps leadership and other staff members informed of progress, seeking review and approval at regular intervals.
  • Develops and maintains content calendars and schedules.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge, skill, and understanding of writing, editing, proofreading, publishing, marketing, organizational coordination, and/or facilitation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a communications, editorial, or marketing role.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Creativity, flexibility, and the ability to communicate and work effectively and efficiently with diverse groups within Rutgers New Brunswick and RBHS including administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of developing and maintaining website content and latest trends and best practices in content strategy and user experience design.
  • Familiarity with content management systems such as Drupal or Wordpress for publishing and managing web content.
  • Understanding of user experience design principles and the ability to design user experiences that are optimized for user engagement and conversion.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
  • Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics 4 and/or Matomo.
  • Ability to analyze data to measure effectiveness and make recommendations to optimize content.
  • Superior writing and editing skills.
  • Exhibits strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Self-motivated go-getter with a positive attitude.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to “roll up sleeves” and execute program deliverables.
  • Completes work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Is able to seek out information and solutions to problems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of relevant experience as a communications professional at an institution of higher learning.
Equipment Utilized
  • Content management systems (e.g., Drupal or Wordpress).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Willingness to use personal car for work travel.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same.
