Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is an Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Health & Wellness. Reporting to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Executive Director of Student Health & Wellness will provide direct supervision of all Health & Wellness units including Student Health Services, the Counseling Center, Health Promotion Division, Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance, Disability Services, and the campus food pantry (pantryRUN).
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Lead and facilitate collaboration among all health and wellness departments to provide high-quality, comprehensive, and collaborative care for our globally diverse student population at Rutgers University-Newark
  • Provide innovative guidance to promote health & wellness initiatives throughout the campus community
  • Lead the assessment of student health needs for the total student population and, as a result, formulate, implement, and evaluate plans for comprehensive health and wellness services that integrate medical care, psychological services, health and wellness resources, awareness and education, services for students with disabilities, and support for victims of crime and interpersonal violence
  • Create and foster partnerships among the health and wellness staff and across the University and staff in Academic Affairs, Enrollment Services, and others to encourage student-centered practices that support the mission of the Division of Student Affairs, and the University at large
  • Coordinate direct care and RU-N’s general health and wellness mission so that students receive culturally responsive and coordinated health and wellness services

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Education: Doctorate in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or related field from an accredited institution.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of full-time experience inclusive of administrative/supervisory and/or clinical responsibility
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must understand college health and wellness and be able to lead a team in providing high quality services to a diverse student population
  • A high level of comfort for in working with diverse populations and a well-developed sense of cultural competency is required
  • Must be able to multitask and respond well under pressure. Requires the ability to use data as a guide for decision-making
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy are required
  • Experience working with a diverse population and demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Evidence of solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with supervision of professional staff
  • Experience with budget, policy development and compliance

Preferred Qualifications
An earned doctorate in higher education, health education, or a related field is preferred.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster upon eligibility and upload proof of same. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals , if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply. Failure to provide proof of vaccination for any required vaccines or obtain a medical or religious exemption from the University will result in rescission of a candidate’s offer of employment or disciplinary action up to and including termination.
