Position Summary

Applications are invited for a Research Associate (postdoctoral) position in theoretical and computational high-energy/nuclear physics/lattice QCD in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Michigan State University.  Applicants must hold (or anticipate completion by Summer 2023 of) a PhD in, or related to, theoretical physics, engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the MSU lattice-QCD group’s parton-distribution and lattice gauge theory research efforts and collaborate and contribute to EXCLAIM (EXCLusives via Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning) collaboration, including experimentalists and computer scientists. Applicants should have a strong research record and display significant initiative as well as communication skills that complement their technical skills.

Minimum Requirements

Required Application Materials

To ensure a holistic assessment of candidates, we request that applications include:

(1) A 1-page cover letter that frames the application in the context of this ad, describes the candidate’s planned contributions and how they are complementary to or enhance MSU’s lattice efforts.

(2) A CV, including a list of publications, contributed and invited talks, mentoring roles, leadership positions, awards/honors, efforts in public outreach and accepted/pending proposals for funding/resources. Include a description of the applicant’s teaching experience if interested in a partial appointment in teaching.

(3) A 2-page research statement highlighting past research efforts and future research interests. This statement should highlight a single publication for the committee to read and a description of the candidate’s contribution to that work. 

(4) Contact information for at least 3 people (and no more than 5) who will provide reference letters on request.
