The Division of Psychology within the Department of Pediatrics includes more than 40 pediatric, clinical, and neuropsychologists practicing across subspecialty areas at Texas Children's Hospital, providing care in both inpatient and outpatient environments. BCM, our academic home, is also home to outstanding psychology training programs at the graduate, internship, and postdoctoral levels.

Summary

The Texas Children's Hospital Psychology Division is experiencing significant expansion in providing comprehensive behavioral health care to children and adolescents throughout our system of care. As part of this growth, we are expanding integrated pediatric primary care services in partnership with our Texas Children's Pediatrics primary care practices serving families throughout Houston and the surrounding areas. 

 

These psychology positions involve teaching and supervision of psychology trainees within BCM's APA- accredited internship program and post-doctoral fellowship program.  In addition, all BCM faculty members are expected to contribute to the College's academic mission.  Both independent and collaborative research/scholarship opportunities are available through partnership with other Division members, as well as our subspecialty partners.


Job Duties
  • Provide direct behavioral health care to children, adolescents, and families within a busy primary care setting.
  • Provide consultation to patients and families referred from pediatric primary care providers to assist with triaging patient needs, generating a treatment plan, and providing appropriate recommendations to address the presenting problem.
  • Implement evidence-based and brief, solution-focused interventions tailored to the presenting problems, psychosocial environment, and cultural context.
  • Recommend appropriate follow-up services and help families navigate how to access additional services as indicated.
  • Collaborate with the patient's primary care physician, family members, school personnel, and other medical or behavioral health providers to promote interdisciplinary care for effective intervention.
  • Partner with clinic staff to create protocols for screening common childhood mental health problems, responding to crisis, and other plans of care for specific patient groups.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctorate in clinical, counseling, or school psychology with a specialization in pediatric or clinical child psychology from an APA or CPA approved program.
  • Completed both an APA-accredited psychology internship and postdoctoral training in pediatric or clinical psychology.
  • Licensure or license-eligibility in Texas.
