Job Description

Summary

In this project, we aim to use the recent algorithms in image processing to develop an automated segmentation platform of Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) and computerized tomography (CT) scans. This project will be supervised by Professors Khalil Khanafer and Yasser Aboelkassem, University of Michigan-Flint.

Image processing techniques for manual/semi-automated platforms will be extended to be fully automated digital-twin platforms using ML and AI techniques. Real clinica-imaging data will be used in the study. The outcomes from this platform are expected to identify critical biomarkers that can be used in the diagnostic phase of patients with aortic dissection and aneurysm diseases.


 

Responsibilities*

Job responsibilities may include the following:

  • Perform an intensive literature review about cardiac image processing
  • Develop/use software platforms to segment and process images that describe of the heart function including aortic geometry under healthy and diseased conditions
  • Use the processed images to reconstruct the 3D geometry of the aorta
  • Develop a simple machine learning algorithm to be used in image processing
  • Prepare manuscripts/technical reports/posters/presentations


 

Required Qualifications*

  • Candidate must be a current University of Michigan-Flint graduate/undergraduate student
  • Basic experience with published characterization and coding techniques
  • An ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
  • An interest in working on biomedical related scientific problems


 

Desired Qualifications*

Experience using imaging software and experience coding are preferred

Knowledge of cardiac systems is preferred but not required

Work Schedule

Work will be done on campus or remotely upon mutual agreement.  The position begins immediately and will continue for at least three months.
