Summary of Position

The Technology Product Development Managerwill lead the technical development efforts for the collection of apps that address violence prevention and response. uSafeUS® is implemented in colleges and universities (currently 22 NH schools and three schools in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania & Florida) with a planned national expansion. The high school prototype, uSafeHS® has launched and a middle school version is in the plans as well as versions for the US Military.

The expansion in our app portfolio has created the need for a manager with strong technical product management skills who can work in partnership with the PIRC Executive Director of Research. The Manager of Technology Product Development, will lead and oversee the planning and implementation processes to ensure that deliverable deadlines are completed on time so that the broad goals of meeting customer needs, achieving delivery dates, and reducing risk are met. The Manager of Technology Product Development will lead the technical environment, overseeing the day-to-day operations of all aspects of the uSafe apps including user interface experience and the administration dashboard which enables organizations to control and monitor the app. This position will also manage the front-end and back-end developers, including overseeing the hiring of the developers and management of the developers’ deliverables. They will provide technical guidance and support with teammates who support the schools. The Manager of Technology Product Development will work with the PIRC Executive Director of Research to ensure the work is done within the budget and time constraints, while meeting the uSafe app business and research requirements. The Manager of Technology Product Development will oversee the security of the software and alert the Executive Director of Research of possible risks or issues of concern.

  1. Significant technology development and commercialization expertise, including experience launching end-user apps, and software applications to the market.
  2. Substantial experience developing software to meet customer needs.
  3. Excellent planning and organization skills, a demonstrated ability to work successfully in small teams, and significant experience working within a technical environment.
  4. Critical thinking skills are essential as well as the ability to think “out of the box"
  5. *uSafeUS is designed as a cross platform hybrid mobile app using the cordova platform, which allows the interface to be programmed using HTML/CSS/Javascript. uSafeUS uses the framework MobileUI and jQuery. Native functionality is achieved through cordova plugins which are in Java for Android and Swift for iOS. uSafeHS is the same except it uses custom CSS instead of relying on a design framework like MobileUI. The dashboards were developed using django/python. A MySQL database is used, the apps are hosted on Digital Ocean and Microsoft Azure is used for analytics.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Lead the uSafe development team in the development of new products (e.g., uSafeHS), and lead the development of new features for existing uSafe products (e.g., uSafeUS)
  • Write requirement lists for new products, new features, and product updates, ensuring that sufficient details are provided to enable developers to estimate resources and timescales.
  • Develop, lead, and manage the customer support protocol so that there is a “quick” process to fix issues when customers report problems.
    • Establish and monitor a team protocol for troubleshooting potential issues in the uSafe app products and accompanying dashboard.
    • Establish and develop a process to capture bugs along with details needed by the development team to address these bugs.
  • Lead the prioritization of the bug lists (with input from the Executive Director of Research) and assign tasks to developers as needed.
  • Lead the uSafe app project teams in assessing new features as needed.
  • Lead the uSafe app development teams in estimating and meeting release dates.
  • Develop testing plans; implement an iterative testing strategy and conduct system tests before end-user-testing, to reduce end-user-testing time and issues faced by end users when product is released.
  • Lead, plan, and administer end-user testing of all new products, new releases, and features on existing products.
  • Lead the management of the app development infrastructure, including estimating budget requirements for development tools, hosting services, and/or test devices.
  • Lead, plan and administer the creation of development team launch plans.
  • Lead the development of product training materials and help documents for app users and app dashboard administrators.
  • Lead, plan, develop and oversee testing of e-learning modules incorporated into uSafe app products.
  • Ensure app usage information that can feed development, marketing and future sales is collected.
  • Monitor usage information and develop report usage information.
  • Serve as the liaison between the product development teams and the product project managers (e.g., uSafeUS and uSafeHS).
  • Ensure uSafe apps comply with state and federal legal requirements. Ensure uSafe apps include legal waiver, reporting or other privacy requirements.
