Academic Administrator

Job Description

ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATOR, School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), to oversee and coordinate all aspects of academic undergraduate administration in SHASS; support the General Institute Requirements in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS Requirement); and perform related administrative, advisory, and editorial duties.  Responsibilities include acting as an advisory resource to students, faculty, and staff; compiling and maintaining statistical data; supporting faculty coordinators with outreach events and talks; website maintenance; providing background information and full administrative support for the SHASS Education Advisory Committee; preparing and coordinating catalog copy for MIT Bulletin and other publications; coordinating HASS undergraduate programs, interdisciplinary concentrations, minors, and majors; coordinating and attending all academic orientation and outreach events; serving as a liaison to Subcommittee on the Communication Requirement (OCR) and Subcommittee on the HASS Requirement (SHR); coordinating transfer credit and counseling transfer students and other MIT undergraduates seeking transfer credit; supporting the associate dean with curricular development activities; convening and facilitating meetings with undergraduate administrators; advising students on their HASS options (classes, concentrations, minors, and majors); updating and distributing Minor Advisor and Transfer Credit Examiner lists and guidelines; supporting the De Florez Humor Fund; serving as a liaison for the Textbook Information Project (TIP); administering the Burchard Scholars Program; conceiving and executing events and resources; and performing other duties as requested.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree; three years of academic administration experience; strong computer skills; willingness/ability to learn new systems; excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; attention to detail; and ability to prioritize and complete tasks and follow through on problems.  Should enjoy working with students, faculty, and staff.  PREFERRED:  master’s degree and experience in higher education.  Job #22784-8
