Research/Clinical Veterinarian/Assistant Director NHP Medicine and Management

Job Description

RESEARCH/CLINICAL VETERINARIAN/ASSISTANT DIRECTOR NHP MEDICINE AND MANAGEMENT, Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM), to provide leadership in the veterinary care and coordination of research activities for nonhuman primate (NHP) species.  Will provide veterinary support and oversight for a wide variety of species and be actively involved in training the next generation of comparative medicine professionals. Though the focus of this position is NHP medicine, will be expected to be flexible as needed in providing clinical care and model development support across multiple facilities and species.  Will join ten other veterinarians in fulfilling DCM’s mission to provide the best in animal care and collaborative research support; and be an integral part of an established comparative medicine program providing training to veterinarians and veterinary students in research, laboratory animal medicine, and comparative pathology.  DCM  serves as the primary resource for the care, development, and refinement of animal models within the MIT community. Opportunities for collaborative and/or independent research abound and will be encouraged.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or training with ECFVG certification; license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state; and ability to work effectively as part of a team.  PREFERRED:  expertise and interest in nonhuman primate medicine and breeding colony management, surgery, and anesthesia; experience collaborating with researchers and mentoring students; formal or informal supervisory experience; and formal training in comparative medicine with diplomate status in the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) or European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM).  Those with at least two years’ experience practicing or training in veterinary medicine in a research setting may be considered.  Job #22786
