Hourly Wage of $21.96 - $32.21 (Classified Level 12)

Salary/Compensation Statement:
  • Hourly wage reflects an approximate annual salary of $45,678 – $66,988.
  • New employees may not be placed on the salary schedule higher than any current employee in this classification with the same or greater number of years’ relevant experience.
  • Lane’s robust Benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, basic term life insurance, long term disability, vacation leave, personal time and paid sick leave.
  • Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness ProgramThrough the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions regarding your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or to the US Department of Education.

Required QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with coursework in student services, psychology, counseling, education, international or area studies, political science, foreign languages, or a related field.

Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience working in academic advising, international student advising, or other student service area.

Position Purpose:
The International Programs Project Specialist II supports the success and retention of international students while attending LCC by providing support to cultural adjustment activities, events, and international student advising. An individual in this position also serves as a Designated School Official as defined by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
The individual in this position exhibits professionalism and collegiality in a team environment, and the ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, accessible, and professional atmosphere. This person must exhibit cultural humility and agility, with the ability and commitment to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Essential Functions:
  • Work effectively with a team of Project Specialist II.
  • Maintain a commitment to global, multicultural respect and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate an attitude of emotional intelligence, positivity, and flexibility in a constantly changing environment.
  • Academically support International Programs students at ESL and credit levels.
  • Assist students to create a two-year graduation path in order to transfer to a four-year university.
  • Work with students on holistic student success programs.
  • Ensure compliance of international students with federal government regulations maintaining accurate information in the SEVIS system.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official for SEVIS DSO.
  • Provide backup support to Admissions as DSO.
  • Keep informed and up-to-date on changes in immigration law, and SEVIS regulations.
  • Support international students in maintaining F1 & SEVIS status.
  • Using the BANNER system, screens, and codes to accurately input student information and class registration.
  • Support the International Programs during international student orientations and community-building events.
  • Provide information and support to help students meet necessary requirements for sponsorships, including, but not limited to, the Saudi Cultural Mission, UAE Cultural Mission, Qatari Mission, and Kuwaiti Mission.
  • Actively encourage and facilitate a student-centered, intercultural leadership-driven climate through student participation in leadership activities, retention programs, promotion of programs abroad for all students, and other related activities.
  • Develop training resources for International Programs students located internationally.
  • Develop and maintain a network of resources to facilitate student referrals and community building.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to and works under the supervision of the International Programs Director. Work is performed independently based on previous knowledge and professional judgment, according to local, state and federal regulations, applicable laws, College policies and program guidelines.
This position assists with the coordination of and leads the work of administrative assistants/staff and works in collaboration with other program coordinators and assistant directors. This position assists with work plans, may assign tasks, provides priorities, and assists with training staff.

This position is available to answer questions and troubleshoot problems on a daily basis and may have input into hiring decisions and performance evaluations.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works indoors under a normal office working environment and is exposed to usual office working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of, Skill in, and Ability to:
  • Developmental and inter-culturally savvy leadership-based retention program model preferably in the international setting.
  • Language learning process and ability to communicate with English Language Learners and nonnative speakers of English, Standard American academic procedures and processes such as degree, certificate, and college transfer program planning ability to explain them.
  • Operating standard office equipment including a computer; familiarity with a variety of computer software packages and e-mail, internet, and social networking.
  • Student orientation systems, academic success programs, and/or community building.
  • Working with people from international cultures and from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Understand and apply the BANNER system, screens, and codes to accurately input student information and class registration.
  • Group presentations and delivering information to large diverse groups and other public relations activities.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment in which change and population growth are constant factors.
  • Learn the developmental model for academic advising of international students in the community college setting.
  • Learn and disseminate campus and community resources, particularly student support services.
  • Build rapport with challenging students who lack academic skills.
  • Think critically and establish sufficient rapport with the international student population, instructors, and other academic advisors to ensure maintaining an ongoing relationship and appropriate advising.
  • Develop and maintain a network with resource people to facilitate student referrals and community building.
  • Organize, complete, and follow through on tasks.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing; work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comply with federal and state laws and guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality following FERPA laws and regulations.
