Assistant Professor of Clinical Population and Publice Health Services (Behavioral Epidemiology and Addiction Science)

Job Description

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the "Trojan Family," which is comprised of the faculty, students and staff that make the university what it is.

The University of Southern California Department of Population and Public Health Sciences (DPPHS) and Institute for Addiction Science invites applications for an open-rank faculty position. We seek a faculty member with expertise in behavioral epidemiology and addiction science to join the Health Behavior Research Division of DPPHS and contribute to USC’s research and teaching mission. We are interested in outstanding applicants from all areas of behavioral epidemiology, although we especially encourage applications from those with expertise in addiction science to complement our existing strengths in health behavior research related to tobacco product use, adolescent substance use, health disparities, and the intersection of substance use and other health behaviors. Expectations include taking collaborative and leadership roles in scientific manuscripts, grant applications, multi-investigator scientific teams, contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and mentoring postdoctoral, doctoral, masters, and undergraduate trainees. The candidate will also have the opportunity to teach undergraduate or graduate courses within DPPHS. This multi-disciplinary department of behavioral scientists, epidemiologists, environmental health scientists, and biostatisticians has a long history of conducting innovative externally-funded research and currently holds active research centers on tobacco, obesity, and other public health issues. The candidate will also become a member of the USC Institute for Addiction Science (ias.usc.edu). This multi-school academic unit involves 80 addiction scholars across 8 USC schools and supports collaborative trans-disciplinary research, education, and community engagement focused on understanding and reducing addiction. The Institute offers seed funding, specialized research facilities, and other resources designed to advance addiction science. Please upload a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, description of research and teaching interests, a statement outlining previous and potential future contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, three representative reprints, and three letters of reference to: Jessica Barrington-Trimis, jtrimis@usc.edu. We will begin reviewing applications immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The annual base salary range for this position is $120,000-$138,000.  When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

The University of Southern California strongly values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity in employment.  Women and men, and members of all racial and ethnic groups, people with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
