Job Summary

Independently uses and applies wide-ranging experience and proficiency in organizational development, effectiveness, business process analysis and strategic planning on projects that involve multiple organizations and stakeholders. Uses advanced organizational development professional concepts and organization objectives to resolve complex organizational development, design, and effectiveness issues. Regularly works on highly complex issues of strategic engagements where analysis of circumstances and information requires an in-depth evaluation of factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

The school of nursing is embarking on a comprehensive strategy to accelerate and innovate faculty practice into the UCSF Health System and the community. The SON will create new clinical offerings for its clinical partners and contract with these partners to deliver these offerings on their behalf.

To succeed in these new arenas, we are developing new partnerships and innovative care delivery models, which need robust strategic planning, program management, and leadership support. The Director will focus on developing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, while also creating departmental processes and programmatic infrastructure to manage existing programs, relationships, and contracts to build new programs to support faculty practice growth and student integration.

Given the type of work and our organizational culture, the Director will oversee 2 staff members in the Office of Clinical Affairs, the program coordinator, and the contract analyst.  The Director will oversee the contracting analyst who is responsible for the development, management, execution of all internal and external clinical contracts. The Director will also oversee the program manager who has responsibility for recruiting, engaging, and onboarding over 300 volunteer faculty, ensuring successful integration into the SON. The Director will also align the internal strategic policies and workflows that impact School of Nursing departments in the areas of contracting, finance and administration.

The incumbent will be the liaison to SON faculty, SON Chairs and administrative leadership, as well as external healthcare partners and key UCSF health leaders. The Director reports to the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and works in close collaboration with the executive leadership in the School of Nursing.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

As a vital part of the world-renowned health sciences campus, the UCSF School of Nursing fosters excellence, diversity, and innovation. The school has over 130 faculty members serving in leadership and advisory capacities in research, health care delivery, health policy and sociology. The school is a leader in NIH research funding awarded to schools of nursing and its academic programs are ranked among the top in the nation. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows come from all over the world to prepare for leadership roles in science, patient care, health policy and education. The School of Nursing Dean’s Office provides leadership and support to four academic departments and an organized research unit, in addition to providing a variety of services to support students and faculty. The Office of Clinical Affairs supports faculty practice integration, strategy, contracting, credentialing, and program development for innovative models of care. It also supports the volunteer faculty network with recruitment, appointment, engagement, outreach, and administration. 


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to achieve measureable results in a diverse stakeholder landscape balancing competing and conflicting interests.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software and database applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
  • Demonstrated leadership skills to motivate and influence others.
  • Facilitates process design or re-design engagements using appropriate process methodologies, tools and techniques
  • Leadership skills in managing and motivating teams, creating an atmosphere of trust, and
    encourage improvement and innovation
  • Relevant work experience with at least five (5) years managing complex multi-department processes/ projects and/or a large organization-wide or department-wide initiatives.
  • Facilitates process design or re-design engagements using appropriate process methodologies, tools and techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized, strategic organization interventions.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving, project planning and implementation skills.
  • Highly skilled in facilitation, consulting and relationship building.
  • Applies strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Possesses strong consulting, relationship building, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates skill consulting to managers and groups at all levels
  • Ability to coach, facilitate and influence people at all levels.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn quickly, reason, synthesize and generalize based on information obtained; sound judgment; ability to draw unbiased conclusions
  • Ability to focus on priorities, strategies, and vision
  • Knowledge of the consulting process to effectively lead engagements from inception to conclusion.
  • Ability to persuade through both logic and appeal to positive motivations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of the organizational development and effectiveness field, theories, models to assess, design and implement customized, strategic organization interventions.
