Department Information:
The Department of Resident Life serves a highly diverse population of approximately 12,500 undergraduate students living in traditional residence halls, apartments, and suites including some public/private partnership apartment communities. About 46% of all resident students are enrolled in twelve living-learning programs covering a wide array of academic areas. Resident Life employs a diverse workforce of 88 full-time and graduate staff members and about 600 undergraduate student staff members. General Description of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Communications and Marketing, the Coordinator for Graphic Design and Creative Services serves as a member of the Department’s Creative Services Unit and provides direct assistance and support for print, digital, and web design projects. This position serves as the lead graphic designer for the department; collaborates with internal stakeholders to design and produce engaging on-brand visuals that support the educational mission of the department; assists in developing and executing strategic marketing plans to engage current and prospective students and families; manages print and digital marketing for residence hall communities; coordinates services for outsourced printing and production; utilizes the on-line project management system to coordinate and track projects; plans, produces, and supervises photo, video, and social media content; hires, trains, and supervises student designers, photographers and videographers; and manages the departmental visual identity and creative asset library.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic arts/design, or related field.

Experience:
At least 1 year professional experience in graphic design and/or creative services. An equivalent combination of education and / or experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of visual design, marketing, and copywriting. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite programs such as InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. 
  • Artistic and technical photography skills. Some experience with videography. 
  • Knowledge of the print production process and equipment. 
  • Knowledge of methods, procedures, techniques, and media available for design production. 
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, and collaboration. 
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative creative, marketing and communications team. 
  • Open to and seeks out feedback.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Master’s degree. 
  • Supervisory experience. 
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot software and hardware issues with Mac computers, drivers, and peripherals. 
  • Experience with electronic project management software. 
  • Experience working with Content Management Systems.

Physical Demands

Printing, handling, cutting, and hanging of large format design collateral, physical demands associated with action photography. Predominantly operates in an office environment with significant time spent in front of computer screens. Some work (less than 5%) requires moving and lifting of equipment and material. Ability to travel around campus for meetings and to attend to duties. Occasional evening and weekend work commitment required.
