Job Description

Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of GE Admission Specialist in the District Global Education Division.

GENERAL DEFINITION

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Global Education and in close collaboration with the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) admission and registration offices, the Global Education Admissions Specialist coordinates the recruitment, admission, and immigration processes for incoming international students attending CCS’s three campuses, Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC), SFCC-Pullman and Spokane Community College (SCC).

This position will oversee the international student admission process from inquiry through orientation and will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO).

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Collect and review required admission documents, including foreign and domestic educational transcripts, international bank statements, affidavits of support, passports and valid proof of English language proficiency. *
  • Gain expertise in working within the colleges Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (TargetX). *
  • Serve as the DSO for initial I-20 issuances and assist visiting students/scholars on J-1 and other non-immigrant visas. *
  • Work closely with the Immigration and Student Success Managers to maintain accurate and up-to-date intake lists. *
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic, long-term marketing and recruitment strategies in alignment with CCS’s vision and goals. *
  • Work closely with educational agents and develop contacts and high-quality relationships with international high schools, colleges/universities, foreign study abroad advisors, United States (US) embassies, and partner institutions to create more awareness of CCS programs globally. *
  • Attend virtual international high school and agent fairs, language schools, colleges and universities to market and recruit international students. *
  • In collaboration with faculty counselors and curriculum advisors, serve as an enrollment coach to guide new, incoming students with the advising and registration process. *
  • Regularly review and update admission forms and acceptance letters. *
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of international student orientations each quarter. *
  • Work closely with SFCC/SCC admissions staff in managing international student inquiries, admission processes, CRM and ctcLink input, and document upload. *
  • Work with Institutional Research (IR) to collect, analyze and provide data regarding international admissions to leadership, as well as educational agents, IIE (Open Doors), college departments, partner institutions, scholarship agencies, study abroad agencies and other international organization. *
  • Monitor compliance with government regulations ensuring a high standard of cooperation with the Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) and Department of Homeland Security regulations. *
  • Collaborate with staff and outside agencies in resolving prospective student issues relating to admission and pre-arrival e.g., visa complications, payment of Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fees, etc. *
  • Supervise work-study students. *
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Complies with district policy, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statute and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *

  • Indicates this is an essential duty.
This position is designated a bargaining unit position.

 

COMPETENCIES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)


  • Associate degree from an accredited institution. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • Two (2) years of higher education admissions experience or experience in an international student services environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of immigration rules and regulations.
  • Considerable knowledge of college admissions policies and procedures.
  • Skill in reviewing/evaluating foreign transcripts.
  • Skill in delivering presentations.
  • Strong intercultural communication skills.
  • Skill in operating a computer and supporting software.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form.
  • Ability to learn and apply applicable federal regulations.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals, objectives and strategic plan of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, and community and technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning and working environment that honors diversity, equity and inclusion.

PREFERRED COMPETENCIES (DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Experience as a DSO.
  • International admissions experience.
  • Foreign language competency or overseas study or living experience.
  • Experience using a Student Management System (PeopleSoft).

 

CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

TOTAL COMPENSATION WITH BENEFITS: $57,963 - $72,485.

Total compensation is an estimate based upon adding the following amounts together:


  • Base compensation of $40,812 - $54,492, plus
  • Current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates, plus

  • Median retirement fund contributions.
The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the District to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position. Once an applicant is chosen for an interview, they are required to complete and submit a declaration regarding sexual misconduct and investigation per state law.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Full-time schedule (12-months, 40-hours a week).
  • 6-month probationary period; may be extended up to 12 months.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Requires local or regional travel. If using a personal vehicle, proof of driver's license and car insurance is required.
  • Criminal background check is required.
