Summary of Position
Includes supervising 4-6 full time residence hall directors who implement a comprehensive educational curriculum with a significant focus on student contact, learning, success and overall well-being. In addition, assuming department wide responsibilities and decision making for several key areas within the department/division. The Assistant Director maintains full budget authority for multiple budgets within the department and functions as a vital part of the department central staff leadership team consisting of the Director, Associate Director, and 4 Assistant Directors. Successful and meaningful collaboration with other departments is expected.

2 years full-time professional experience in college residence halls. Master’s degree in higher education or related field. 2 years of supervisory experience in college residence halls; excellent verbal communication skills; demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion; leadership and community development; educational curriculum, assessment, and student conduct: ability to use basic computer software, including Microsoft Office: demonstrated strong administrative skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
2 years supervising full time residence hall staff members; 4-5 years working in college residence halls; demonstrated record of training residence hall staff members on a variety of subjects; demonstrated knowledge of student and organizational development theory and practice.

Duty/Responsibility
Supervision: Directly supervise 4-6 full time residence hall directors on all aspects of their work, and 16 other hall directors on departmental areas specifically under this person’s authority. This includes clearly communicating expectations, evaluating work, providing individualized professional development, and conducting reviews of each individual supervisee.

Department Responsibilities: Each assistant director has decision making authority for certain department wide responsibilities. Occasionally, these responsibilities are rotated among the assistant directors. The pool of organizational responsibilities include: RA selection, RA development, RA morale, professional staff selection, professional staff development, advising staff on student conduct related functions, curriculum, leadership development, management of department committees, inclusion and equity, assessment, residential learning communities, office management, department technology, and liaison with Housing
Duty/Responsibility
Administrative and Overall Department Management: Work with central staff to assess, implement, and analyze our mission and values. Maintain positive and effective relationships with multiple departments and organizations outside of residential life; Review and analyze information in relation to curriculum grids, survey data, qualitative data, student related reports; Development of goals, objectives and assessment for assigned areas of responsibility; Recommend department policy and procedural changes; Demonstrate commitment to professional development and engagement in activities on campus that connect students, staff and faculty.

Training: Provide training for professional and para-professional staff. Develop and present staff training for professional staff and RA staff.

Financial Management: Assist Director in the development of department budget which exceeds 2 million dollars; Assume direct responsibility for managing certain accounts within the department budget.

Divisional Responsibilities: Participate as a member of divisional teams and committees and/or assume leadership of such teams as appropriate. Be a reliable, positive representative of the department focusing on strengthening our services to students and staff.
