The Assistant Director is a member of the study abroad team of the Notre Dame International (NDI). The position is responsible for implementing the strategy and operations plan of ND International programming, primarily within an assigned portfolio. This includes recruitment, selection, and preparation of students for their summer and semester study abroad programs, as well as contributing to continuous strategic planning and assessment of existing and potential programs. This position works collaboratively across ND International and other campus departments to support the overall goals of the institution; to this extent, the Assistant Director provides cross-cultural, analytic, and linguistic support in various special projects and initiatives, both led and/or co-sponsored by NDI. The Assistant Director also communicates, promotes, and provides support for NDI’s global network, particularly in what concerns to their synergies with existing study abroad programs. The Assistant Director reports to Director of Study Abroad and will work closely with other members of the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

? Manage international programs in an assigned portfolio by building a recruitment plan aligned with strategic goals of NDI; advising students throughout the study abroad cycle; evaluating and selecting qualified applicants; developing a pre-departure framework in which students are academically, culturally, and experientially prepared for their study abroad experience; ensuring program’s strategic and operational compliance through collaboration with on-site partners; generating reports with recommendations for change and/or maintenance of programs based on assessment data from reintegration meetings and debriefing; and liaising with ND academic, professional, and administrative offices
? Take a lead role in one of the following areas: 1) identifying and implementing best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion in Study Abroad; 2) developing programs to facilitate intercultural development through study abroad; and/or 3) creating and organizing outreach and recruitment activities that can aid in diversifying all study abroad programs
? Partner with NDI Staff on special projects in support of the internationalization of Notre Dame. Tasks may include developing new programs; implementing re-entry programming for students returned from study abroad experience; and facilitating and promoting special projects enhancing usage of cross-cultural, analytical, and linguistic skills
? Serve as liaison with assigned NDI global gateways/centers and advance NDI’s strategic initiatives through Notre Dame’s Global Gateways, Centers, and international staff
? Work with different units on campus and with faculty and staff and consult with relevant departments within Notre Dame in matters pertaining to international education initiatives utilizing expertise in specific regions of the world for operational facilitation in relationship building and strategic ventures
? Take on leadership roles within the study abroad team on projects or initiatives pertaining to the team’s need and as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
? Bachelor’s degree in education administration, counseling or related field
? 3-5 years of experience in international higher education and study abroad in the U.S.
? Experience living, studying, or working outside the United States
? Experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion programming in an academic environment
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically as it relates to communicating to various stakeholders about diversity, equity, and inclusion
? Excellent interpersonal skills to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
? Proficiency with computer technology, including social media, collaborative work platforms, and computer software standard to the study abroad industry
? Great team player with strong work ethics
? Strong organizational, project management, administrative, and computer skills
Preferred Qualifications
? Master’s Degree, preferably in International Studies, Area Studies, or Higher Education
? Demonstrated experience working with people of diverse backgrounds
? International experience and expertise in the global south
? Training in IDI and intercultural competency development
? Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines
