Postdoctoral Associate in experimental geochemistry

The Experimental Geochemistry Lab at Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to perform high-temperature and high-pressure experiments to quantify the behavior of sulfur throughout the subduction cycle. Research will be under the direction of Megan Holycross (https://holycrossresearchgroup.eas.cornell.edu ). Previous experience with piston-cylinder experiments and/or synchrotron spectroscopy is highly desirable but not required. In addition to managing their own academic research and administrative duties, the successful applicant will be expected to help mentor junior members of the research group and assist with the maintenance of experimental equipment. The nominal start date of this position is August 15, 2023 but a flexible start date is possible. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the expectation of renewal with satisfactory performance for at least one additional year.

Requirements:

  • A PhD in the earth sciences
  • Proficiency in science communication (written and oral)
  • Ability to contribute to an inclusive working environment, including interaction with researchers at all levels

Assets:

  • Experience using and maintaining high-pressure and/or high-pressure instrumentation
  • Experience using x-ray absorption spectroscopy or other synchrotron techniques

Pay Range:

$54,840.00 - $75,000.00

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.

  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.

  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)

  • Unique applicable skills.
