Summary of Position

Reporting to the Director of Research & Large Center Development (RLCD), the position supports the Research, Economic Engagement, and Outreach (REEO) Office mission and its strategic goals to increase externally funded research and sponsored programs and UNH’s visibility as a research university. This position will carry out research development services and programs as designated by the Director to provide support to individuals and teams of faculty, researchers, post-docs and graduate students. This position will primarily lead RLCD support for the development of highly competitive, complex, interdisciplinary, multi-million dollar proposals to federal agencies, as well as develop training and practices to support “Team Science” research efforts and a culture of collaboration at UNH and throughout USNH.

Other minimum qualifications

Combination of education and professional experience that reflects successful proposal writing in academia or industry, proposal review and/or experience as a federal agency program officer or rotator, and experience in Team Science. Project and/or proposal management experience, particularly Broad familiarity with the range of Federal sponsors that fund research and scholarship. Strong interpersonal skills and understanding of how to write clear, engaging, and persuasive text in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and/or the broader public, while ensuring adherence to the funding sponsor’s guidelines. Knowledge of emerging fields in science and technology. Demonstrated vision and creativity in approaching time-sensitive projects.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. or terminal degree. Track-record of developing large, complex proposals and securing funding from external sources (e.g., NSF, DOE, NIH, NASA, NOAA, etc.). Ability to work independently, yet also lead and participate as a member of a team. Experience developing and presenting educational programs and/or workshops.

Duty/Responsibility

Proposal Development
With a primary focus on large, complex proposals, collaborate with researchers to develop project timelines and manage the full proposal life cycle while working with the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) to ensure they have all materials needed to submit high-quality proposals on time. Facilitate proposal process for researchers and SPA by creating internal deadlines and tracking internal deliverables, reiterate RFP technical requirements needing focus, and assemble human and non-human resources to support teams to develop the most competitive possible proposals.

Duty/Responsibility

Research Development
Work with UNH and USNH leadership to identify large, multidisciplinary funding opportunities from federal and non-federal sources that capitalize on existing strengths and expertise; and build complementary strategies to pursue these opportunities. Develop strategies for raising awareness of opportunities, supporting teaming, and building team science skills through education/ training, seminars, and workshops.

Duty/Responsibility

Strategic Collaborations
Work with UNH and USNH offices and programs as appropriate to catalyze new interdisciplinary research initiatives. Facilitate collaborations within UNH, across institutions, and with state and industry partners. Assist implementation of internal seed fund competitions, such as the Collaborative Research Excellence initiative (CoRE), including: coordination of awardee review and guidance strategy; outreach to faculty and administration; development of CoRE funding solicitation(s); implementation of CoRE application review process; and management of select CoRE-awarded teams.
